FUOYE CONDUCTS HER 4TH POST-UTME EXERCISE

Federal University, Oye-Ekiti has recently concluded her post-UTME examinations to test candidates who seek admission into the university in the 2014/2015 academic session. his would be the university’s fourth post-UTME examination since 2011 when it took off. The management of the institution, in her bid to improve on the performance of previous years, had put every facility in place to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

The examination which commenced on Wednesday, July 30 lasted for four days to end on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Over four thousand candidates applied to sit in the post-UTME examination but three thousand, seven hundred and twenty nine wrote the examination.

At the Ikechukwu Iheanacho ICT Centre, venue of the examination, the chairman, organizing committee of the 2014/2015 post-UTME exercise, Prof. Rasak Bakare informed the Information crew that the university’s carrying capacity had increased from five hundred and fifty to eight hundred students. This is an improvement on the past years when only five hundred and fifty candidates were offered provisional admission to pursue various degree programmes in the university.

According to the chairman, the increase in admission quota has given Federal University, Oye-Ekiti the advantage to admit more candidates. The university is also determined to establish high standards in term of facilities, organization, registration and sitting arrangement of candidates for this examination.

The examination was purely computer-based, with the scraping of the pencil/paper method. Verification of candidates was also done via biometric mechanism which helped to reduce to the barest minimum, examination misconduct, scores manipulations and stress experienced by the candidate as a result of manual verification and screening. Each candidate had access to her result as soon as she finished writing the examination.

Admission to various departments in the university is in line with the approved quota and selection of successful candidates is done with respect to their performances as regards the quota for each department.

The one-choice system introduced by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made the post-UTME examination process far easier than what it used to be in the past as only candidates who made the institution their only choice were allowed to participate in the post-UTME examination, and are eventually offered provisional admission into the university depending on their performances in the examination.

The chairman also revealed that the existing Department of Biotechnology has been split into three separate departments viz; Depatment of Biochemistry, Department of Plant Science & Biotechnology and Department of Animal & Environmental Biology. The Department of Geology has also been newly created  and will take its first students in the coming 2014/2015 academic session. All these efforts are to ensure the best academic practices, the chairman said.
