An Abuja-based international non-governmental organization, Centre for Ethics and Self Value Orientation, has bestowed on the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Isaac Uzoma Asuzu, a prestigious award of its Ambassador of Ethics and Conscience.

By this development, the organisation, according to its Executive Director, Prince Salih Musa Yakubu, recognizes the Vice Chancellor as one of the most ethically responsible vice chancellors in Nigeria. The Centre also recognizes FUOYE as the most ethically responsible federal university in the South-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria and the sixth most highly ethical university in the country.

The presentation of the Certificate of Credence to the university as ‘2013/2014 Most Ethically Responsible Federal University in the South-West Zone’ coincided with the induction of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Uzoma Asuzu, into the Hall of Fame as Ambassador of Ethics and Conscience. The award, according to the Executive Director of the NGO, came as a result of a secret independent research in which the organisation visited FUOYE three times in February, May and July 2014.

The organisation scored the Vice Chancellor high on basic administrative principles, service delivery, project implementation, due process as well as mediation and conflict management and prevention. According to Prince Yakubu, the investiture was purely a product of painstaking research that did not involve the Vice Chancellor or any member of the university’s management team.

The NGO’s spokesperson, while presenting Professor Asuzu the gold medal of honour, described him as a “Solomon in wisdom” and said the award recipient was one of the outstanding Nigerians worthy of emulation.

The Ag Registrar also received a Certificate of Merit in recognition of his supportive role in the development of the institution. The Executive Director asserted that the award of honours must be in recognition of the recipient’s ethical rectitude.

In his acceptance speech, an elated Professor Azuzu said he had wanted to dismiss the communication of the NGO thinking it was like one of the several that had come to him. He however revealed that the organisation has proved to be different from the others as they attached no financial obligations in their correspondence to him. The Vice Chancellor said he had no doubt the NGO’s research team truly visited FUOYE as has earlier been enumerated. He appreciated the organisation’s work and indicated his joy at FUOYE being recognised among many older universities.

The Vice Chancellor then pledged the preparedness of the university to continue to work hard in order to sustain the much cherished ethical values for more results in the work front.

Delivering a vote of thanks, the Ag. Registrar, Mr. Adeyemo, said the young institution was overwhelmed by the award and pledged the institution’s continued contribution towards building a better Nigeria. Mr Adeyemo also reassured the NGO of the resolve of the university not to renege on the laudable ethics it has been identified with.

Earlier, the NGO’s Executive Director had announced a two-day free training programme for junior officers of the institution from levels 1-6 as well as a day ethics leadership training for leaders of all student socio-cultural groups and course representatives, all at no cost.
