FUOYE Management Makes Staff and Students Laugh at Christmas

Management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, in a characteristic gesture, has put smiles on the faces of its staff and student this festive season. In a statement by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Isaac Uzoma Asuzu, all categories of staff of the university will receive between N5,000 to N15,000 according to their grade to celebrate Christmas given the envisaged delay in the payment of December salary due to non-receipt of funds for this purpose so far. In a proactive move to ensure that staff and families made adequate preparations for Christmas, the VC has directed that the already approved payment be made to all staff immediately, pending the release of funds for salary by the Federal Government.

In expressing regrets over the obvious inconveniences the delay in payment of December salary would cause staff, their families and dependents, the Vice-Chancellor assured that frantic efforts were being made to ensure that prompt payment of salary is made on receipt of the salary grant from the Federal Government. Part of management efforts to ensure minimal delay include keeping some Bursary staff on standby in the event that the university receives alert of such credit during the public holidays. The staff on standby would then be made to effect the salary payments immediately.

In a related development, FUOYE management has put smiles on the faces of its students, especially the returning ones. According to management extract made available on the university website, the university has magnanimously slashed fees payable by this set of students this 2014/2015 Academic Session.(see Table 1). Returning students in the Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences will now pay N33,500 while their colleagues in the Faculties of Agriculture, Engineering and Sciences will pay a maximum of N46,500 only. This review represents an unprecedented 37% and 30%, respectively, reduction in fees payable by returning students of the university. These are indeed good times in Federal University Oye-Ekiti!

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Asuzu, is wishing all staff and students a merry Christmas and happy New Year and has charged all to be good ambassadors of the university and to pray for better days ahead as management is not oblivious of their expectations.

FUOYE Security Head Refutes Allegation

Head of Security of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Mr. Akin Fatoye, has refuted claims that he ordered the Police Area Commander to use live arms during the recent staff unease. Management consequently dissociates the security head from such allegation, which it described as laughable. Management said the allegation is both laughable and unfortunate because a civilian like Mr. Fatoye neither has the power nor authority to order a police officer to shoot at staff.

FUOYE community and the general public are therefore enjoined to disregard this blatant falsehood. Mr. Fatoye on his part has expressed regrets over any inconveniences which the alleged Police action, in discharging their legitimate duties, might have caused any staff.
