FUOYE PLANS WORLD-CLASS ENTREPRENEURAL CENTRE.

The FUOYE Centre for Entrepreneurial Development and Support Services, (CEDSS), is primed to be a world-class skills-acquisition centre. This was the consensus reached at a brainstorming session on how to take CEDSS from where it is presently to the level it is expected to be not long from now. Speaking at a special forum conveyed by the Centre with the theme, Promoting Positive Synergy for ntrepreneurship Programme in FUOYE, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac U. Asuzu, told the audience made up of Principal Officers, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Units and programmes and members of the management committee of CEDSS, that if the Centre is handled differently and very well too, CEDSS has the potential to be the best skills-acquisition centre in the nation. “I know that in some universities.it is only theoretical learning they do, but here we combine teaching with practical skills acquisition. We have even added farming as part of our skills acquisition in FUOYE.” He mentioned piggery, goatery, snailery and poultry as options to students.

He therefore employed all Faculties, Units and Centres to synergize and harmonize all “our activities so that students can benefit from what we have to offer. “The think-tank was challenged to come up with useful ideas and creative ways to move CEDSS forward. Among the speakers was anAdjunct Professor and member of CEDSS, Prof. Olu Makinde who saluted the VC for his 'courage to establish and fund a first-class entrepreneurial centre.' He noted that the programme is ours, “not their programme; it is our baby that should ignite our creativity.”

Director of CEDSS, Professor Olu Atere enumerated some of the skill options available to tudents at the Centre to include screen printing, electrical installation, fashion designing, catering & confectionery, welding, photography, soap-making, carpentry and some support services. “We have gone beyond teaching to skills learning. Our target is to expand idea base of the Centre and that is why we are here today” he said.

Acting Registrar, D. A. Adeyemo said relevant funding expected to move the Centre to the next level should come from proposal writing. According to him, “Such funds expectations can even motivate and excite both staff and students to buy into the programme.” In his contribution, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Rasaki O. Bakare canvassed the need for the Faculties to keyinto the whole essence of skills development and advised that all be mobilized and made to understand the principles of the university's skills development programme. Prof Atere was full of appreciation for the VC and the entire university management for obliging the Centre their commitment to the attainment of its goals, promising that “in one year from now the Centre would be able to stand and count their contributions to the overall growth and development of Federal University Oye-Ekiti.”
