The Psychology Department of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has emerged overall best in an inter-varsity quiz competition organised by Association of Psychology Students (NAPS) and hosted by Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife (O.A.U.) recently. The quiz competition organised by the national body of the association was part of the activities marking the O.A.U Psychology Department Week.
It was NAPS maiden inter-varsity quiz competition and involved the following high-flying universities in Nigeria: Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Redeemer’s University of Nigeria, Lagos State University Ojo, University of Ibadan and of course, Federal University Oye-Ekiti. The competition focused on the core knowledge of psychology in the areas of experimental psychology, personality psychology, psycho-pharmacology, social psychology and psycho-biology.
Some of the competitors have this to say: ‘The competition afforded us the opportunity to judge ourselves against other institutions, give boost to our sense of criticism and group work. It has also strengthened our power of networking with Psychology students in other universities which has provided us the opportunity for further interactions’.
Representing the Department of Psychology, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, at the competition were Arimi Cecilia, Ogunmoroti Oluwaseun, Ola Winifred and Olubode Adeola. The students were led by the Departmental course adviser, Mr. Babatola Olawa at the behest of the Head of Department, Prof. Benjamin O. Omolayo.
