A delegation of top academics from Federal University Oye-Ekiti (Ikole Campus) on Monday 15th August, 2016, paid a courtesy call to the Elekole of Ikole, Oba Adewumi Ajibade Fasiku, in council at his palace.

Leading the delegation was the Head of Campus, Prof. O. O. Amu, who delivered the goodwill message of the Vice-Chancellor to the community adding that the university would continue to appreciate the community’s philanthropic gestures to her since inception such as; active involvement in the Equipment Drive Project of the Faculty of Engineering and the provision of a 350KVA generator for Ikole Campus which has the capacity to provide electricity for more faculties in the nearest future as the university expands.

Professor Amu enjoined the Oba to consider the construction of class room blocks for the faculties of Agriculture and Engineering as opposed to the community’s earlier proposed plan of constructing a new library. This was informed by the fact that classrooms come tops in the university’s priority scale, in view of the forth coming COREN accreditation. Though the library was also necessary, he said, classrooms were of more immediate need.

The Deans and Professors also greeted the Oba and his Chiefs on behalf of the University and appreciated their support, cooperation, humility, and love shown to the university and for making possible the congenial atmosphere that members of staff residing at Ikole enjoy. Professor Bodunde who is a son of the soil also expressed his gratitude for the love Ikole community showed to the University and said he had also “come home to contribute his own quota for the growth and development of the university” thanking the Ikole community for their support and commending them for their strong belief in self-help.

His majesty, Oba Fasiku, noted that the Head of Campus, who is a Venerable in the Anglican Communion, is also a patriotic citizen with genuine commitment to his duty. He remembered Prof Amu’s active role during the Pre-accreditation of Engineering programmes which he, with Prof Bolu, played with all commitment for the success of the programme.

He also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor’s decision to alternate the Senate venue stating that it demonstrated his resolve to carry the two campuses of the university along equally. The monarch also noted that the people of Ikole would benefit from the university’s Programme on Agriculture which would improve the IGR of the university, provide jobs for graduates and increase food productivity and youth empowerment.

Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Professor S. A. Alabadan also raised alarm over the encroachment on university land and appealed to the king for assistance in curbing the trespasses.

It was a mutual chat forum that brought many challenges to the fore while solutions were sought, offered or promised. The Oba reiterated that Ikole was a peaceful community and assured the delegates that residents would continue to enjoy a high level of security.
