In line with his promise to bridge the infrastructure gap in the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Soremekun, has awarded the contract for the construction of a lecture theatre. The theatre which is intended to be of 500 sitting-capacity is sited at the main campus of the institution in Oye-Ekiti.

The first of its kind in the barely six months of the Soremekun administration, the project is solely funded by the school as against others that have been constricted through some forms of grants.

Awarded to a reputable construction firm, Hafadis Global Concepts Limited, it is meant to be executed in thirty two (32) weeks at the cost of one hundred and nineteen million, seven hundred and fifty-four thousand, two hundred and sixty four naira (N119, 754, 264).

This development is a deliberate effort by the administration to meet up with targeted increase in the admission quota of the university especially with the increase in faculties and new academic programmes – all achieved by the administration.

Professor Soremekun had hinted that his administration desired to have a lecture theatre for each faculty in line with the directive of National Universities Commission. Efforts are therefore being intensified to meet this target as more projects are being expected to take off in no distant time.

The administration is making frantic efforts despite the paucity of funds to ensure the infrastructural deficit currently facing the budding institution is surmounted.

A statement from the Directorate of Physical Planning of the institution added that the Directorate will ensure the timely completion of the project while ensuring strict adherence to contract terms and conditions. It equally pledged its full cooperation with the construction firm to ensure a hitch free execution.

The execution of this project will bring to two the number of lecture theatres with the same capacity. The first was however executed through the NEEDS assessment project under the previous administration and is also sited at the main campus in Oye-Ekiti.
