On the 30th March 2017 there was a large turnout of artisans under the body of, Artisans Traders &Allied Technicians Association, Oye local government chapter and the Farmers’ Forum Oye Local Government at the civic Centre Oye Ekiti. It was an occasion of a lecture titled “Resource Management in a Recession: Lessons for Artisans and Small Scale farmers in Nigeria “which was delivered by Dr.Mkpado Mmaduabuchukwu of the Agric- Economics and Extension Department of Federal University, Oye Ekiti

According to Dr. Mkado , artisans and farmers make up the most significant percent of Nigeria working population and even in the increasing technology and computerization; the works of artisans and farmers cannot be taken over by robot. He said the artisan economy alone has an estimated annual value of over N34 billion globally.

He explained further that given the current economic recession in Nigeria, symptomized decline in economic activities (output, trade, gain, prosperity, wealth) which has been accompanied by massive retrenchment across several mainstreams industries, the value of artisans& farmers has been pushed to the fore. He said because of the high cost materials people would not like to invest in an economy experiencing recession, and less likely would expatriates.

He proffered the optimal use of resources as solution for the management of recession.

In attendance of event was the director of the unit Linkage Programme Environmental Research and Development (LIPERD) unit Prof Mrs. A.A Aganga.

Still on the community linkage, on the April 5, 2017 a team in LIPERD and a total number of 13 farmers and artisans from Oye Local Government were on a special trip to Special Royal Farm Limited, Obbo Ile, Kwara state.

The farmer manager, Mr.Abiodun, took the farmers and artisans round the farm facilities introducing them to different sections in the farm. Places visited were the dam, Sour surp and garri processing units, guest house, palm oil processing unit, Plantation, maize storage, cashew plantation, poultry and the general store.
