The Vice-Chancellor Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina has charged fresh students of the university to as a matter of fact uphold the value of integrity, discipline and academic excellence in the pursuit of their courses with a view to be good ambassadors at the end of their four and five years sojourn.
Professor Fasina gave the charge last week Thursday (November 14, 2025) during the 2025 orientation for the newly admitted students of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented at the event by the Dean Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies, Prof. Ayodele Fajimi. congratulated the newly admitted students, urging them to be focused and determined to live up to expectations.
Prof. Fasina urged the fresh students not to take the opportunity for granted, reminding them that they were now stakeholders in a lifelong process of growth, education, and service.
“You are part of the process today, but you will become the product tomorrow,” he said.
According to him, FUOYE has consistently upheld a reputation built on excellence, and it’s expected that students who benefit from opportunities such as this would reflect those values in their personal lives and academic pursuits, describing them as being fortunate to be admitted to the university.
Besides, the Vice-Chancellor in his remarks acknowledged the presence of dignitaries and welcomed them to the event accordingly.
Specifically, he welcomed Deans of Engineering, Professor Olaniyan and his counterpart from the Faculty of Environmental Management and Design, Professor Albert Adeboye.
Other dignitaries included, Director of Students Affairs, Prof. Temitope Babalola, Deputy Registrar, who doubles as officer in the Students Affairs, representing the university Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, Mr.Raphael Oloruntele Olarewaju, representative of the university Librarian, Dr. Olabode and the university Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the initiative was designed to reduce the burden of education on students, describing education as a powerful tool for national development and peace building.
Specifically, the Vice-Chancellor lauded the theme of this year’s orientation exercise “FUOYE Way: Building Character and Legacy,” explaining that the initiative was designed to reduce the burden of education on the students with a view to building character and legacy in FUOYE way.
While describing education as a powerful tool for national development and peace building, the Vice-Chancellor said this was the very bedrock upon which the students’ experience must stand.
The Vice Chancellor insisted that their journey in the university would be defined by more than just lectures and examinations but by the choices they were able to make individually.
Professor Fasina said: “You are not just students but you are ambassadors-in-training.The legacy you build within these walls will be the foundation for the legacy you leave in the larger society.
“Also, in the midst of challenges, you are not alone. Our dedicated staff and robust Students’ Support System are here to guide you.”
He, however, lauded the Dean Students’ Affairs, Prof. Babalola for initiating and sustaining the orientation exercise.
Meanwhile, it’s the 13th Orientation programme for fresh students which kick-started on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th November, 2025.
It was held, respectively at the 1000 Capacity Auditorium, Oye Ekiti and the Faculty of Engineering Hall, Ikole Campus.
Dean of Students’ Affairs Division and organizer, Professor Temitope Babalola, while welcoming the students admonished them to be of good and impeccable characters throughout their stay in the University.
While emphasizing that the Division was established to see to their well-being, he said the students’ affairs was in place to naturally assume the position of parental roles.
Also, the Registrar, Mr Mufutau Adesina who was represented by a Deputy Registrar and Students’ Affair Officer, Mr. Olarewaju Raphael Oloruntele dwelt on the University’s Vision and Mission Statement.
The Registrar said that all organizations, whether public or private, formal or informal had a dream and strategies to achieve the dream.
He said: “For FUOYE, our dream is our Vision and our Mission is the driving force.
Other speakers, Directors of Quality Assurance, Professor Modinat Adekoye-Arominu, ICT, Mr Samson Durojaiye, Entrepreneur, FUOYE Microfinance, Mrs Modupe Olaiya, the CMD, Dr. Adedeji and the Students’ Union Government and others one after the other took the students through the nitty-gritty of what was required of them to become the university ambassadors.
