    Counseling, Human Devpt Center Holds Seminar on abortion

    The Counselling and Human Development Centre, Federal University Oye Ekiti organized a day Seminar for the university students entitled “Unplanned pregnancy and unsafe abortion prevention.”

    It was held at the Faculty of Social Sciences Auditorium on Tuesday 6th May, 2025.

    At the event was the Management of the University led by the representative of the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Samuel Shittu, Professor Bolanle Tajudeen Opoola, a Deputy Vice- Chancellor Administration.

    Other management team were the Deputy Vice- Chancellor Strategic Partnership Research Innovation and Linkages (SPRIL), Professor Joshua Ogunwole, the university Librarian, Professor Isaac Busayo and a representative of the Registrar, Mr. Oloruntele R. Olarewaju, a Deputy Registrar and Administrative Secretary, Institute of Distance Leaning.

    However, on behalf of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bolanle Tajudeen Opoola welcomed other dignitaries to the seminar including the guest speakers, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi Olofinbiyi, CEO ADOLFRIC to the University.

    While saying that the Ag. Vice-Chancellor Chancellor since his assumption of office on 14th April, 2025 had been doing wonderfully well in promoting academic excellence in the University, he said the event was one of the academic programmes that the Ag. Vice-Chancellor Chancellor had thrown his weight behind.

    He applauded the organizers of the event particularly the Director of Counseling and Human Development Center, Professor Omosolape Owoseni and her team.

    While also appreciating the support given by the Dean and indeed the entire Faculty and staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences led by Prof. Azeez Olaniyan, he implored participants to pay wrap attention to details as the topic for the seminar; Unplanned pregnancy and Unsafe Abortion was apt for the august event not only for female but as well as the male participants.

    Following the development, Professor Opoola declared the Seminar opened in the name of the Acting Vice-Chancellor.

    The Director of Counselling and Human Development Center, Professor Omosolape Owoseni in her welcome address appreciated the presence of Management team led by Professor Tajudeen Opoola.

    She also lauded the Guest Speaker, Dr. B. A. Olofinbiyi for out of his busy schedule still grace the event in the capacity of the Chief Speaker.

    However, the Director remarked that the event was a landmark one in the history of the University being the first of its kind in the life of the Centre, saying that the topic was apt as it addressed the complex social and emotional experiences including those related to sexuality and reproductive health.

    Noting the centrality of the topic to human existence, a topic surrounded by silence stigma and misinformation, she said the seminar was vital as it created safe and respectful spaces where “we can learn, unlearn, ask questions and grow.

    Besides, she said the seminar was a proactive step toward education, prevention and empowerment. Meanwhile, the guest speaker centered his speech on sexual and reproductive health noting that most of the young girls of today were dying of reproductive health related challenges as the most of the cases affected the adolescent. According to the guest speakers, sexual and reproductive health was about the most vital knowledge that the young adolescent needed.
