Disclaimer: FUOYE refutes resumption date for STREAM ‘A’ students

    Foluso Ogunmodede (PRO)

The Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, has refuted news making the rounds that it has asked its STREAM ‘A’ students to resume academic activities following closure of the university in the wake of the death of its 200-level Nursing student, Miss Modupe Deborah Atanda.

This, the university said was the handiwork of peddlers of falsehood while urging students and the entire university community to disregard the news as the “fake circular emanated from dubious persons who are enemies of the university.”

Specifically, it said the news was fake as it didn’t emanate from the university, saying the university was still mourning the death of its “beloved Modupe Deborah Atanda whom we lost recently and the decision to reopen the university is yet to be taken.”

In a release by the university registrar, Mr. Mufutau Adeshina Ibrahim, dated September 11, 2023, entitled ” Disclaimer on Resumption Date for STREAM ‘A’ students” urged the students and the entire university community to disregard the fake news.

It reads: “I write on behalf of the University Management to request all students particularly, stream ‘A’ students to disregard the news of resumption of academic activities being peddled on the social media.

“The University is still mourning our beloved Modupe Deborah Atanda whom we lost recently and the decision to reopen the University is yet to be taken.

“The fake circular emanated from dubious persons who are enemies of the University. It wasn’t signed by me.

“For avoidance of doubt, the University remains closed until further notice.

“All students will be formally informed of the date of resumption anytime the decision to that effect is taken by the University Management.”
