The Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education, Dr Sunday A. Adeniran, has called on academic staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in the conduct of examinations, stressing that credible graduates can only emerge from credible examination processes.
Dr Adeniran also urged the university’s academic staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and objectivity in conducting examinations to ensure the production of credible graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
The educationist made the call during a sensitization programme organized for academic staff of the Faculty of Education on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
The programme, themed “Equipping Academic Staff for Optimal Performance Before, During and After the Examination,” was designed to enhance the capacity of the faculty capacity and promote best practices in examination administration.
He noted that the pursuit of academic excellence goes beyond classroom teaching and requires a robust assessment system that accurately reflects students’ learning outcomes adding that continuous training and capacity-building programmes are essential for maintaining quality assurance in higher education.
The sensitization programme featured a series of insightful presentations by seasoned academics. Delivering a lecture on “Ethics, Security and Integrity in Examination Administration,” Dr. M. O. Irewole highlighted the importance of maintaining confidentiality, preventing examination malpractice, and ensuring strict adherence to established examination guidelines.
In another presentation titled “Fair Examination Practices for Diverse Students,” Dr. A. T. Babalola stressed the need for inclusiveness and equity in assessment processes.
She urged lecturers to consider the diverse learning needs and backgrounds of students while maintaining academic standards.
Also speaking, Dr. A. B. Adams delivered a paper on “Test Construction and Assessment Literacy,” where she enlightened participants on the principles of developing valid, reliable, and objective assessment instruments capable of accurately measuring learning outcomes.
The participants were taken through various aspects of examination administration, including question setting, moderation, invigilation, grading, result processing, and examination ethics.
Resource persons who spoke at the event, stressed the need for lecturers to maintain confidentiality, avoid bias, and adhere strictly to institutional regulations governing examinations.
They further highlighted the dangers of examination malpractice and its negative impact on educational quality, institutional reputation, and national development.
According to the facilitators, institutions that uphold credible assessment systems are better positioned to produce graduates who are competent, innovative, and globally competitive.
