….staff, students hail VC, mgt team over decision to cushion effect of transport fares’ hike

The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) under the dynamic leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina has resumed intensive online teaching arrangement for the students. This according to the management, is to help the academic staff and others to cushion the effect of fuel price hike on account of the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government and also ensure that students are adequately taught, their course outlines properly covered and regular and smooth academic calendar is strictly adhered to.
It will be recalled that the Prof. Fasina led administration has initiated an intensive online teaching for the teeming students when the FG imposed several weeks of holidays to cater for the recently held general elections in the country. The novel arrangement had paid off with the citadel of learning ensuring sound teaching, smooth and uninterrupted academic calendar.
Announcing the laudable development on the various social media platforms of the University community, the Director of Online teaching, Prof. Odo Ayodele, in his statement titled:
Resumption of Online Teaching, said:
Dear Colleagues
(1) In view of the recent fuel price increase and its imminent effect the management of FUOYE has approved the resumption of the blended teaching program as demonstrated in the recent electioneering holiday.
(2) The eLearning classes should commence immediately, and as usual, we have the backing of the Vice Chancellor and his team and he has given his word that we shall be adequately remunerated
.
(3) We therefore seek the cooperation of the HODs, Deans and Faculty Members in providing the course codes and the assigned lecturers information to the ICT to ensure the success of this process once again.
(4) You are free to adopt any suitable method of your choice. However, previous experience had shown Telegram as the easiest and simplest platform for both synchronous and asynchronous learning with capability to record and accommodating a very large number or students.
(5) Google-classroom which comes with the FUOYE Google suit is also encouraged as it allows only FUOYE students with activated FUOYE email access to such classes,” he said
While representing details about the procedure and links for the online teaching arrangement, clarified that the online teaching does not mean lecturers should stop physical lectures aa the new arrangement is to complement physical lectures. He assured the staff that stipends for data purchases and others are being provided by the management to ensure immediate take off of the intensive online teaching.
Pleased with the development, members of staff have applauded the VC and his management team and wished him greater strides positively in office. The students also eulogized the VC and his management team for the great initiative, saying they are pleased with it as it would also cushion the effect of the fuel price hike.
