The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has continued to blaze the trail in journalism, technology, and innovation as four of its alumni were selected as fellows for the 2025 AI and Tech Accountability Reporting Fellowship.
This was initiated by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) in collaboration with AI Collective Nigeria.
Out of hundreds of applications from across the country, 20 fellows were chosen following a competitive three-day intensive virtual training and rigorous pitch evaluation.
Each row on the official fellowship announcement flyer features at least one proud FUOYE alumnus, a testament to the university’s growing reputation for producing forward-thinking media professionals and researchers.
The selected FUOYE alumni were Faith Omoniyi, Bolu Abiodun, Ayobami Olutaiwo and Juniad Shukurah.

However, the alumni in the next three months will receive editorial mentorship, funding and strategic support to publish a minimum of three in-depth stories exploring the ethical dimensions and social implications of artificial intelligence and technology in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of Acting Vice-Chancellor, Director of Advancement Centre, Prof. Olubukola Oyawoye said “this achievement is a testament to the strength, brilliance and global relevance of the training and values imparted at FUOYE. “These young professionals are not just representing themselves — they are ambassadors of a university that continues to nurture excellence and integrity.”
On behalf of the Acting Vice-Chancellor and the entire FUOYE management, I commend our alumni for this outstanding recognition. You are blazing trails in a critical area of global relevance — the intersection of technology and public interest.”
Prof. Oyawoye, however, assured the university community that FUOYE would remain committed to championing innovation and supporting its alumni network.
She went on: “We will continue to spotlight and empower our graduates who are making remarkable contributions across disciplines. The future of FUOYE is bright because our alumni are making it so.”
The fellowship, which seeks to strengthen transparency and accountability in the tech ecosystem aligns with FUOYE’s commitment to fostering innovation, critical thinking, and social impact across all disciplines.

As the world rapidly embraces AI and digital transformation, FUOYE stands at the forefront — shaping the future through its graduates who are not only equipped to compete globally but are also contributing meaningfully to shaping narratives and policies around technology in Africa.
