The Governing Council of Federal University Oye-Ekiti has ratified a number of major decisions of the University Senate, including new appointments, anti-extortion measures, security initiatives and financial reforms aimed at strengthening institutional governance.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, disclosed the decisions while addressing members during the institution’s 84th Senate meeting held on Monday, May 25, 2026 at the Senate chambers of the University.
Among the decisions ratified by Council was the appointment of Professor Babatunde Joshua Omotosho and Professor Babatunde Afolabi as Deputy Vice-Chancellors in charge of Academics and Strategic Partnerships, Research, Innovation, and Linkages (SPRIL) respectively.
Council also endorsed Senate’s position on extortion within the university system, approving that any staff found culpable of extorting students would face outright dismissal from service rather than termination of appointment as earlier proposed.
The Council further approved that any Dean or Head of Department under whose supervision such illegal acts are perpetrated would be relieved of his or her administrative position.
In a move aimed at promoting transparency and accountability, the Vice-Chancellor announced that Council had approved management’s request to engage independent external auditors to conduct a comprehensive forensic audit of the university’s finances from 2021 to 2025.
As part of efforts to address security concerns within the university environment, Council also ratified management’s proposal to introduce a dog security system across the campus, particularly for night surveillance operations.
Speaking on the deployment of the university’s Enterprise Resource Package portal, Professor Ogunwole revealed that the platform recorded 12,452 visits within its first 24 hours of testing, while a total of 63,088 visits were generated between May 13 and May 20, 2026.
According to him, May 19 and May 20 recorded 15,803 and 7,761 visits respectively, while the “One Day VC” initiative advertisement on the portal attracted 52,851 visits. He noted that the university’s webometric ranking depends significantly on external traffic and visibility generated through its portal and official website.
Council also approved management’s request to give employment consideration to graduates of the university with First Class honours whenever vacancies exist, with a proposed ratio of 70 to 30 in favour of the institution’s graduates in order to sustain academic excellence.
Also ratified was Senate’s decision on the constitution of a Committee on Diaspora Professor Engagement to facilitate collaboration with scholars abroad, while Council equally approved management’s request to seek N150 million for the commencement of a Commercial Agriculture Enterprise.
