…. urges Education Minister to appeal to unions for peace to reign

The Congress of Nigeria University Academics (CONUA) branch of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has sued for peace following the resumption from six-month leave by the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina on October 14, 2025.
In a press statement signed by CONUA’s.local acting chairperson, Dr. (Mrs.) Ene Awe, the association said the University needs peace more than ever before at a time like this. It said it is only with peace that so many of its forthcoming activities could be achieved in record time. The activities included accreditation for some of its main programmes, which includes Law and some medical and Arts programmes. The matriculation ceremony of the fresh students newly admitted into the University and also the Convocation ceremony for 2024/2026 graduands of the University, among others.
Dr. Awe’s statement reads in part: ” As we welcome our astute and amiable substantive Vice-Chancellor back into his lawful duty on campus, we want to urge all union members on our dear campus to allow peace to reign. The University belongs to all of us and no single individual or union can hold the University community to ransom.
We particularly want to urge the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa to appeal to local leadership of all unions on campus, both academic and non-academic in FUOYE to allow peace to reign. Whoever have grievances should approach such issues in a civil and mature way and not through violence.
Prof. Fasina has performed admirably well and all stakeholders have benefited from his excellent leadership qualities.
Therefore, we urge all to allow peace to reign on our campus so that we could achieve more developmental changes as we have been achieving under Prof. Fasina.
FUOYE under Prof. Fasina has achieved great things , these are things that should be widely published. Henceforth, we do not want bad publicity from any member of our University community whose selfish interests are being promoted against the general interests of the University community.
