Barely one year after it named a former Pro-Chancellor University of Ibadan (UI) and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Wole Olanipekun as the institution’s Professor, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria has again approved the appointment of Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council Osun State University, Malam Yusuf Olaolu Ali as a Professor of Practice.

Malam Yusuf Olaolu Ali, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria was confirmed as the university’s Professor of Practice by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina.

Ali’s letter of appointment was handed over to him shortly after he delivered first Inaugural Faculty of Law Public Lecture of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.

In an-elated-laden voice, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Fasina described Malam Yusuf Olaolu Ali as a rare breed and one of the very few best lawyers in Nigeria, who had spent over four decades of his practice of law, contributing to jurisprudence.

According to Professor Fasina, Malam Yusuf Olaolu Ali’s appointment would lift FUOYE’s Faculty of Law to prominence in terms of Ali’s vast knowledge of law, erudition and enormous expansion of knowledge in legal practice, spanning over four decades.

This, the Vice-Chancellor said would no doubt be of tremendous benefits to other law teachers at the FUOYE Faculty of Law.

Specifically, Prof. Fasina said Ali’s appointment as Professor of Practice would boost service delivery at the Faculty of Law of the Nigeria’s fastest-growing university with a view to making the FUOYE produce qualified and sound Law graduates.

However, Malam Yusuf Olaolu Ali, who delivered the Faculty of Law inaugural Public lecture entitled “Social Media in Aid of Legal Practice,” harped on enormous roles of social media which would fast-track the legal profession in no distant future, saying the social media had provided avenue for lawyers to connect with the world including their clients and colleagues.

Ali said: ” The roles of social media in the legal profession cannot be underestimated. In today’s digital age, social media platforms have become powerful tools that shape public opinion, influence legal proceedings and provide an avenue for lawyers to connect with their clients and colleagues.

“Social Media has now become an indispensable tool for businesses across various industries; the legal profession is no exception. However, utilising social media effectively in the context of legal practice requires careful planning and strategic implementation.

“It is also crucial to navigate the ethical and legal boundaries surrounding its use, ensuring compliance with professional standards and maintaining client’s confidentiality.

“By harnessing the power of social media effectively and responsibly, legal professionals can unlock new opportunities and stay ahead in an increasingly digital world.

“The future of social media in the legal profession holds both promise and challenges. As we move forward, it’s essential for regulatory bodies to anticipate and address potential issues, providing clear guidance and rules to navigate the evolving landscape.

“By doing so, we can harness the power of social media while upholding the ethical standards and integrity of the legal profession.”

Meanwhile, FUOYE Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina has received applause following the appointment of Malam Yusuf Olaolu Ali as the institution’s Professor of Practice.

To the Vice-Chancellor University of Ilorin, Professor Egbewole, Ali’s appointment as FUOYE’s Professor of Practice was the best in the annal of the university’s history in recent times.
