    FUOYE GST Directorate honours best students

    The Directorate of General Studies (GST) of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria has presented awards to outstanding students of the Department, who excelled in various General Studies courses for the 2023/2024 academic session.

    The award ceremony, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s conference room, was to encourage academic excellence and reward diligence among students taking GST courses.

    Deputy Director of the Directorate, Dr. Odedokun Adeyemi in his opening remarks, who stood in for the Director, Dr. Loretta Ntoimo said that the initiative was designed to motivate students with a view to putting in their best in their academic pursuits.

    He, however, lauded the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, for approving the initiative while thanking the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, for his continuous support towards the Directorate, especially by providing more capable hands to strengthen the unit.

    He said: “This idea was borne out of the need to celebrate hard work and encourage other students to strive for excellence.

    “We sincerely appreciate the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fasina, for approving the programme and the Acting Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering support and for empowering the Directorate with more staff.”

    The following students who distinguished themselves in their respective GST courses were honoured:

    They were Awolusi Isaac Ayobami- Best Student in GST use of Library and ICT, Ndareke Gloria Oluwatosin – Best Student in GST Philosophy, Logic, and Human Existence, Owoeye Samuel Abiodun – Best Student in GST Philosophy, Logic, and Human Existence and Bolarinwa Human Ademola – Best Student in GST: People and Culture of Nigeria.

    However, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, who presented the awards to the recipients, commended the Directorate for the bold and thoughtful initiative, saying that recognizing excellence would not only celebrate achievement but also serve as inspiration to others.

    He said : “I sincerely appreciate the Directorate of General Studies for coming up with this wonderful initiative.

    “Rewarding excellence is a great motivation for others to work harder. It is also a message to those coming behind that hard work pays.

    “I also appreciate everyone who has supported this cause, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor SPRIL, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, who made generous donations to support the awards.

    “As students, ensure that you not only pass through the University but also allow the University to pass through you.”

    The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Gbemisola Ogbeye, Acting Head of Department, Nursing Science; Mrs. Essential Patricia, staff of the GST Unit; Mrs. Odewumi Blessing, ETM Coordinator; and Professor A.B Adeboye, Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences

    Also present were members of the University Management including the Registrar, Mr. Muftau Ibrahim; the University Librarian, Professor Isaac Busayo; and the representative of the Bursar, Mr. Nenmatne Wapji, who joined in celebrating the students.
