…as Prof. Akinola, Dr. Akinkunmi elected representatives

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) on Monday, October 27, 2025, held its first emergency Congregation meeting at the university’s 1000-capacity auditorium.
The crucial gathering was convened as part of the institutional process towards appointing a new Vice-Chancellor for the university.
The meeting, which recorded full attendance of congregation members, was presided over by Professor Tajudeen Opoola, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina.
Other principal officers present included Professor Samuel Shittu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics); Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, Registrar; Dr. Adekemisola Bolanle Debo-Ajaguna, University Bursar; and Dr. Olabode Olajide, Acting University Librarian.
In accordance with the university’s statutes, the Congregation, comprising the Vice-Chancellor as Chairman, the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Bursar, University Librarian, and all staff members holding a university degree, convened to elect its representatives for the process of appointing a new Vice-Chancellor.
The election process was conducted in a hitch-free and transparent manner, with both teaching and non-teaching staff participating actively.
However, after orderly voting by the congregation, the following results emerged;
Academics Candidates:
Professor Bifatife Adeseye — 178 votes
Professor Christopher Ehinome — 99 votes
Professor Lukman Akinola — 215 votes
Non-Teaching Staff Candidates:
Dr. Sunday Akinkunmi — 274 votes
Mr. Ojo Ademola — 224 votes
At the end of the collation, Professor Lukman Akinola emerged as the elected representative for the teaching staff, while Dr.. Sunday Akinkunmi was declared the representative for the non-teaching staff in the forthcoming process of appointing a new Vice-Chancellor.
The atmosphere at the meeting, however, reflected a strong sense of unity, professionalism and institutional commitment to due process.
Attendees commended the seamless organization and the transparent electoral procedures overseen by the Registrar’s Office.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tajudeen Opoola lauded members’ resilience especially for their active participation while reaffirming the university management’s commitment to upholding integrity, fairness, and inclusivity in the ongoing leadership transition process.
The successful conduct of the emergency Congregation meeting underscores FUOYE’s dedication to transparent governance and participatory administration within the Nigerian university system.
