…as NUC thumbs-up Institute

No fewer than one thousand five hundred and seventy-two students of the Institute of Part-Time Studies of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria were matriculated as they pledged OATH of allegiance to the university.
The matriculation ceremony which took place on the premises of the Institute’s Headquarters, Aiyegbaju- Ekiti was for the 2023/2024 academic session.
However, the National Universities Commission (NUC) also described the Institute as the most fastest-growing one among the contemporary Nigerian universities.
At the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, re-echoed the impressive performance of the Institute which had culminated in quick successive approval of its courses by the NUC as well as the attendant passmark endorsed by the regulatory body.
The Vice-Chancellor
made this disclosure at the 4th matriculation ceremony of the Institute on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Ayegbaju main campus.
While reeling out an impressive development of the institute from inception to date, Prof. Fasina reckoned that the progressive enrollment into the institute was as a result of the astute approach with which the Institute was administered as the 1, 519 students at inception had risen to over 6,200 students at present, describing it as astronomical.
Specifically, the Vice-Chancellor said that the hallmark of his administration was the usage of the Part-Time programme which was employed at developing adjoining towns around Oye Ekiti.
With the establishment of the Ifaki campus as its latest centre, which hosts Microbiology, Biochemistry and Hospitality Tourism Management, the Institute has confidently bolstered its presence in five communities of the state. “since the take-off the satellite campuses of the institute of Part-Time Studies in these communities, there have been tremendous improvement in the development of the towns and this has earned the university accolades from the Ekiti State Government.”
He, however, charged the newly matriculating students as they embark on a new challenging adventure in pursuit of knowledge and self development, to seize every positive opportunity available to contribute their own quota to the university and the Nigeria’s development at large.
Prof. Fasina made the assurance that the university would provide all the enabling environment needed to succeed in their academic endeavour.
He said: “As a university, we will not fail in our duty of care to you, but you must work collaboratively with us to make this happen.”
Further congratulating the matriculating students, he urged them to honour their matriculating oath and the attendant obligations, advising them to shun all form of illicit vices and cultism, stressing that the university would not tolerate any of its kind as anyone found culpable of perpetuating such crimes, would face severe sanctions.
He insisted that the university which had zero tolerance for social vices would not treat students found culpable with levity while affirming that the students handbook would always serve as guidance to them.
At the matriculation ceremony were dignitaries from all works of life including Royal Fathers.
Speaking with FUOYE News at the end of the ceremony, the Director of the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), Dr. Omolade Adeleke, attributed the successes of the Institute to the astute visionary leadership administration of the Vice-Chancellor chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina.
He reiterated that the institute always ensured it complied with the NUC guidelines occasioned by the recent express approval of all its courses by the NUC.
Dr. Adeleke said: “The Institute cannot do anything illegal and we have been adhering strictly to the rules and guidelines of the NUC which is the hallmark of this administration.”
On the growing population of students’ enrollment into the institute, Dr. Adeleke described it as being astronomical and outstanding adding that the institute would only hope for the better where it would keep expanding to meet the teeming academic needs.
“We have put mechanism in place to ensure that we always collaborate with the communities where our centres are situated so as to mitigate the evolving challenges associated with the expansion of the institute.
“ The Institute through community collaboration have amassed assets worth over 500 million naira since inception. Example, Ikole campus has over seven auditorium with a minimum of over 200-seater capacity while Ire campus boasts of a 250-capacity Computer Based Test (CBT) centre with 275 ultra modern laptops which enables seamless CBT examination by the UTME candidates.”
