The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), ably led by Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, has ratified the unopposed emergence of Prof. Babatunde Afolabi as new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academics of the University. This is a build up to the emergence of Prof. Afolabi as unopposed candidate for the position as one of the nominees of the Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina during the 81th Senate meeting of the University. Prof. Temitope Babalola, who was a second nominee of the VC for the position, had stepped down citing the greater experience in such capacity of Prof. Afolabi as the main reason for his quiting the race.
The position of the DVC, Academics had been vacant for months since the Ex-DVC, Academics, Prof. Olubummi Shittu, became the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University when the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, went on a six months leave in April, 2025. Prof. Afolabi’s emergence as DVC, Administration has drew applause and celebration from the University community.
Prof. Afolabi is an astute academic, scholar and administrator who has also had a remarkably successful stint in the corporate world as a banker and finance expert. The cleric cum scholar has been serving the University as chairman, Committee of Deans and Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences before his appointment as DVC, Academics. He possess an outstanding curriculum vitae/citations which reads in part;
” Prof. Babatunde AFOLABI is Professor of Finance in the Department of Finance, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria. He became Acting HOD Department of Finance in 2020 and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences in 2021 and substantive Dean and Chairman Committee of Deans and Directors in 2023 and 2025 respectively. He is a member of FUOYE governing Council . He has multidisciplinary research focus in Finance, Banking, Corporate finance and Monetary & Development Economics.
Prior to joining the academia, he was an astute Banker with almost two decades of cognate banking experience with both First Bank Nigeria Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.
He holds a PhD. in Finance, an MBA, Master and Bachelor’s Degrees in Economics and has delivered many academic papers in several conferences, he co-authored several books and has published over 60 research papers in his area of interest. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Society for Financial Research, Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Public Administrators (FSPA), member of the Nigerian Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (ANIMN), Institute of Economists of Nigeria (INEN), Member Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Examiners of Nigeria (CIFCFEN), and an Honorary Senior member of Chattered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (HCIB). He has produced many PhD and Master students in Finance and has extensive knowledge in practise, research, training and teaching. He is a reviewer for many journals on-shore and off-shore. He is the Deputy Editor in chief of FUOYE Journal of Finance and Contemporary Issues and Editor in Chief of FUOYE Journal of Management Sciences.
He is married to Funmilola Afolabi, the marriage is blessed with Children.”
