The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) held an orientation programme specifically designed for newly recruited staff members, aiming to familiarize them with the university’s policies, procedures and work culture, helping them smoothly transition into their roles at the institution.
The Induction and Orientation programme jointly organized by the Personnel Affairs Unit of the Registry and the Directorate of Integrated Services and Training (DIST) took place on Tuesday 5th February 2024 at the Faculty of Arts 300-capacity hall of the University.

In his opening speech addressed to the participating newly recruited staff, the University Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim represented by a deputy Registrar and Head of, the Personnel Affairs Unit, Mr. Sunday Akinkunmi, said
“this orientation programme was put together to welcome our newly recruited staff of the university and to inform you of the important values of the university.”

“What the university stands for and the minimum expectations from you as staff of the university.”
He, thereafter, took participants down FUOYE memory lane while emphasizing the motto of the university, which is ‘Innovation and Character for National Transformation’, which has been the mission and focus of every staff and student alike since inception.

He said : “This university has key visions and all staff of the university, every time they come on board, they key into these visions of the university.
“FUOYE aspires to be the institution of first choice and if it’s going to be the institution of first choice, then it must have an excellent crop of professionals and a highly dedicated staff that are committed to the visions of the university.
“I want to tell you today that FUOYE is the most sought-after and the 4th most subscribed university in the whole of Nigeria when it comes to students’ admission into university, which says a lot about the quality of academics and students that we have.
“This university wishes to be seen as providing critical opportunities for students’ success, and it also wishes to be engaged in regional and global resources for entrepreneurial education.
“FUOYE wishes to be valued as a university where there are faculties, students and professional staff, who are actively involved in integrating cutting-edge technology, multi-disciplinary and disciplinary research.
“Among the nine universities established in 2011, FUOYE stands out among them in terms of infrastructural facilities and academic programmes .
“We started with just four faculties, but today, we have grown to over twelve faculties, and not only that, we started with only 512 students, but today, the population of our students is more than forty thousand.”

Mr Akinkunmi, however, enjoined the new staff to work together to uphold the core values that align with the vision and mission for further development of the university and the society at large.
However, the programme also featured a crop of facilitators within the University who did justice to a number of issues including Administrative Procedures and Channels of Communication in the University System delivered by Mr Patrick O. Ogunjobi.
A former two-term Registrar of Ekiti State University and Reader in the Department of Sociology, Dr. Omojola Omowunmi Awosusi delivered a lecture on Qualities, Duties and Responsibilities of University Staff while a Deputy Registrar, who doubles as the Personnel Officer of the University, Mr. Sunday Ayodele Akinkunmi delivered papers on Critical Issues in the University Regulations and Staff Scheme of service and Barr. Eunice Adeleke delivered a paper on Staff Ethics and Legal Matters on behalf of the Deputy Director, Legal, Barr Lawrence Amaechi ENI as it affects staff of the university.
There was also a question and answer session where newly recruited staff were freely allowed to ask questions, and answers were proffered.
Speaking with FUOYENews, The Personnel Affairs Officer, Mr. Sunday Ayodele Akinkunmi said “as part of the administration’s vision, new staff are expected to be knowledgeable about the university’s vision and mission.”
He went on : “In the past four years, we have seen rapid growth and development at the university in terms of infrastructural development largely due to its existing staff.
“The recent addition of academic and non-teaching staff requires that they be informed about the university’s vision, mission, and expectations.

“We are educating them at the point of entry to ensure that they align with the university’s vision and adhere to its rules and regulations.
“ This programme is designed to introduce new staff to the university’s core values”
He urged the newly recruited staff to be dedicated, hardworking, resilient and contribute to the university’s development.

“After this programme,” Mr. Akinkunmi said “the new staff are expected to understand their career paths, requirements for career progression, and the university’s scheme of service and conditions of service.”
