The Vice-Chancellor Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has pushed for synergy between the police and the university with a view to boosting fight against crime especially as FUOYE now had its presence in 12 communities in the state.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was alongside Principal officers of the university on a courtesy visit to Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Dr. Emmanuel Dare Ogundare also advocated for good welfare package for the police to boost their morale as the need to motivate men in uniform would make them perform gallantly well.

Prof. Fasina, however, commended the police for their dedication to duty especially in the areas of fighting crimes in view of increased number of higher institutions in Ekiti State.
He said: “We want to thank you for the good job your men have been doing in Ekiti State where you are contending with increased number of higher institutions apart from other criminal elements in the state.

“Thank you for your support especially as we are now in 12 communities and towns; every community wants FUOYE’s presence and some of these communities donated facilities for the various programmes in their domains.
“This shows that these communities are thirsty for education to improve their socio-economic activities.
“As for the police we want to say we’re ready to support you in terms of logistics to improve your operation.

“The police need enough motivation and we’re equally grateful to GOD that FUOYE has not witnessed students’ unrest in the last two and a half years. This we are grateful to GOD.
“But we’re having a challenge with land encroachment by our host communities especially in Oye. Although the Oloye of Oye and other prominent indigenes have intervened, activities of these land grabbers are stalling development of the university. And to avert crisis we will need police partnership. In other words, there must be synergy for peace to reign.”
However, the Commissioner of Police, Dr. Ogundare saluted Prof. Fasina’s efforts and various support his leadership of FUOYE had shown to the police, describing him as the best accessible Vice-Chancellor in Ekiti State.
He said: ” As for synergy, we can assure FUOYE of this. We are faced with crimes in Ekiti ranging from cultism, Cyber crime to armed robbery because of the large number of students in the state, this is unexpected and we’re equal to the task even as we have armed robbery to contend with.
“We thank you very much. Other institutions in Ekiti are not doing what you are doing. You are doing what you are doing because you value security and we promise to step up our operations against criminal elements such as cultism and cybercrime within and around FUOYE axis.
“We’re making frantic efforts to be on top of our game to keep criminals at Bay;we won’t rest on our oars. We’re ready to form partnership with you to kick criminals out of the axis.”
