The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has refuted the allegation of lecturers’ neglect of undergraduates of her faculty of Engineering in teaching them. The false allegation was made on the social media by one Rose Oluchi of the Concerned Parents and Educators Network.

Rose Oluchi in her careless comment on Facebook, alleged that :” FUOYE Engineering lecturers should do the needful by lecturing their students Undergraduates are lamenting because of their neglect. VC please call your lecturers to order.“

But in a swift response, FUOYE ‘s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, described her post as misleading, mischievous, unfounded and false. The VC insisted that Rose Oluchi’s false comments against the University is clearly calculated at maligning the image of the upwardly mobile University and wondered why an individual would go to such a demeaning extent to spread fake news against a federal University.

Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media Matters, Wole Balogun, the VC disclosed that immediately the attention of the Vice-Chancellor of the University was drawn to the fake news by Rose Oluchi, he ordered an investigation into the allegation and found out that students of the University’s Engineering faculty and in fact, all students on the twin campuses of Oye and Ikole of University, receive lectures regularly, both virtually and physically.

Balogun’s statement, which was made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday, further reads in part: “…As a matter of fact, FUOYE has some of the best facilities for teaching courses in the Engineering profession in the country. This is why students in that faculty get the best in teaching and research and have made the University proud by winning national laurels.

“We recall that students of the faculty recently made the University proud by roundly defeating other students of Engineering from other universities.
We recall in particular, that five of our Engineering students were proud winners of a scholarship contest organized by MTN in collaboration with the Nigerian Association of Engineering, Geology, and Environment (NAEGE) for outstanding Nigerian students.

“We also recall that our student, Ademola Adeleke of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Ademola Adeleke defeated 11 students from other Nigerian Universities to emerge the winner of the National Engineering Science and Technology Essay Competition (NESTEC), 2022 edition.

“Ademola, then a 500L student of our citadel of learning competed keenly with other brilliant Engineering students from such Universities as the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, (ABU) University of Nigeria Nnsukka, (UNN), University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) and the Uthman Danfodio University Kano among others in an essay writing contest to test their sound knowledge about the field. He won with the highest score of 67. 67 percent beating his second runner up, Emmanuel Nnagozie Eke of the UNN with over four points. His uncommon feat is no doubt an attestation of the fact that FUOYE gives the best in teaching and research in the field. It was from the same faculty that an electric vehicle and robotic seed planter were recently manufactured. These facts are published widely in the media.

“ Finally, we recalled proudly that during the faculties’ exhibition of products, which was part of the University’s week long 8th convocation ceremony, the University’s faculty of Engineering was one of the faculties that had an excellent outing by exhibiting so many products which included an electric bicycle, electric doors, three dimensional printer, electric car which was driven personally by the VC and many other amazing products that showed that the students of the faculty are having some of the best scholars in Engineering teaching them.

The management of FUOYE hereby warned Rose Oluchi and her likes to beware of spreading fake news against the University to avoid a serious legal battle. Members of the public are also advised to always investigate issues properly before slamming baseless and false accusations against the University on the social media “, he said.
