…as Prof Fasina bags best Vice-Chancellor of year award

The Senate of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) in Ekiti State, Nigeria, has renewed the appointment of Professor Bolanle Tajudeen Opoola as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) for an additional term of two years.
This decision was as a result of satisfactory performance in the past two years.
The renewal was recommended by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina in recognition of Professor Opoola’s commitment, dedication and ongoing contributions to the development of the university.
Prof. Fasina said : “Professor Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola has performed exceptionally well. He received commendation for organizing the recent convocation and for his steadfast commitment to the development of the university.
“He deserves another term in office.”

Following the conclusion of his initial two-year term as stipulated in the university’s Act, the Senate approved the renewal at its 72nd meeting held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.
This renewal will take effect from 2025, following a positive performance report from the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, who presided over the meeting.
Also, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fasina informed the Senate that the University Council has approved construction of a University Guest House to accommodate visiting professors, members of the University Governing Council and other guests.
Besides, the Vice-Chancellor announced that the Leadership Newspaper had nominated him for the title of Best Vice-Chancellor of the Year, highlighting his significant achievements in enhancing the university’s stature.
During the meeting, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina introduced two German scholars, Prof. Hartmut Herrmann and Prof. Khanneh Wadinga Fomba to the Senate.
Their recent visit to FUOYE, according to the Vice-Chancellor has paved the way for promising academic collaborations and underscores the university’s role as a hub for scientific discovery, both within Nigeria and internationally.
However, the event was a testament to Professor Fasina’s efforts to foster international partnerships capable of driving research excellence and innovation.
Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the university and the two German scholars would mark significant steps toward realizing the vision of establishing FUOYE as a globally recognized institution for cutting-edge scientific research and academic growth.
He said “we are confident that this partnership will yield mutual benefits and contribute to advancing knowledge and addressing global challenges.”
