The Federal University Oye-Ekiti proudly announces the signing of an Agreement of Cooperation (AoC) with the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) on 11th March 2026 at the Siyan Molomo House of NGSA, Abuja, Nigeria.
This cooperation will provide a platform for broad-based applied research in natural resource exploration, as well as technical expertise in addressing various geology-related challenges. Key areas of collaboration include geological mapping, geoscience information monitoring, mineral exploration, environmental impact assessment, petrology, engineering geology, and professional training.
The FUOYE delegation was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, who was ably represented by the Registrar, Mr. Mufutau A. Ibrahim. Also present as part of the University team were the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, Prof. Cecilia O. Akintayo, and the Acting Head of the Department of Geology.
The NGSA team was led by the Director-General, Prof. O. O. Ige.
Both institutions acknowledged the importance and feasibility of establishing a collaborative partnership that promotes training, research, enhanced exploration, and access to up-to-date geoscience information necessary for quality education and Nigeria’s economic development.
The partnership will also foster mutual benefits through the periodic updating of Nigeria’s geological and mineral occurrence maps, while providing access to valuable geological datasets for academic research and teaching purposes.
The Department of Geology expresses its sincere appreciation for the strong support and encouragement of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joshua O. Ogunwole, and the University Management, as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, whose commitment made the signing of this AoC possible.
