Students of the Federal Unuversity Oye- Ekiti (FUOYE) turned out in their large numbers for a rally to declare their unwavering support and solidarity for the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina, describing him as the father of modern FUOYE.
Speaking with FUOYENews, FUOYE Student Union Government (SUG) Vice- President, Comrade Olaniyi Israel Adewale during the rally to address the sexual harassment allegations surrounding the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, said; “We’re here to express our concerns about the uproar on the internet regarding our Vice-Chancellor,”
He went on: “For weeks, we’ve heard rumors of sexual harassment accusations and a panel set up to investigate, but we haven’t received any updates.”
Olaniyi Israel, also stated that the SSANU National Women committee has threatened to disrupt academic activities, prompting the Student Union Government to take action.
“We can’t just sit back and do nothing. That’s why we’re passing a vote of confidence in our proactive Vice-Chancellor,” he added.
He, however, eulogised Prof. Fasina’s integrity, citing his clean record over the past four years.
The SUG’s Vice- President called on authorities to investigate the situation.
Also, Ajisafe Victor Olajide, Chief Justice of the SUG’s Senate, shared his legal perspective citing Section 36 of the Nigerian Constitution which encapsulated fair hearing.
He said : “Let us wait for the result of the panel set up to investigate this matter before taking action. The SSANU National Women committee’s cyberbullying of the Vice-Chancellor is unjustified.”
Ajisafe Victor, stressed the importance of due process, urging the community to await the panel’s decision before acting while corroborating the SUG’s Vice-President’s opinion about Prof. Fasina’s integrity, highlighting his positive impact on FUOYE since becoming the Vice-Chancellor.
Similarly, Idowu Andrew, the Law Faculty representative in the student Senate council, expressed his concerns, saying “we are here regarding the sexual harassment allegations against our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina, which has no legal basis. We should focus on projecting FUOYE’s image positively, rather than dwelling on unfounded allegations.”
He, however, praised the Vice-Chancellor’s accomplishments, highlighting the “blue roof projects” across campus.
Andrew emphasized that the allegations remain unproven.
“These are mere allegations, and we stand with our Vice-Chancellor. We’re against anyone trying to tarnish our school’s reputation. We support our school and our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina.”
