    FUOYE to benefit from FG’s Gas buses, says VC

    The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has said that the university was working out plans on how to benefit from the Federal Government’s gas buses aimed at cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

    The Vice-Chancellor, who tasked members of the university community, said it was time staff of the university began to think outside the box for the academic advancement of the nation’s fasted-growing university.

    He said this at the maiden edition of a workshop organized by the university’s Advancement Center being headed by Prof. Olubukola. M. Oyawoye.

    The maiden event themed “Commitment to University Advancement,” was held at the Twin Lecture Hall, Faculty of Science of the institution.

    At the event were the university Principal Officers and other members of staff.

    They were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola, who stood in for the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Bursar, Mrs. Adebolanle Debo-Ajaguna, Head of Personnel, Mr. Sunday Akinkunmi, representing the university Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, Dean Students Affairs, Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun-Ali and Dr. Adebola Aderibigbe.

    However, Prof Opoola, who stood in for the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fasina, welcomed dignitaries while commending the Advancement Center for organizing the workshop.

    He said: “I welcome every one of you to this programme which is being organized for a select few members of staff of this great University. I want you to see this as a great opportunity to be here.

    “I want you to contribute your own quota as a staff to the advancement of this center and the university at large because FUOYE is our Jerusalem, you have to contribute your quota to the development of our great University.

    “I want you to think of what you can bring to this university. FUOYE Alumni donated 36 fridges to support the ongoing accreditation exercise in the University, and Our amiable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina has collaborated with the Federal Government of Nigeria for gas buses, he has also won many grants on the name of our institution.

    “‘Very soon we will get our letter for the Senate Building for this school and as a member of this team, I want to urge you to bring Innovation to the development of this university.”

    Earlier in her address, the Director of FUOYE Advancement Centre, Professor Olubunkola.M Oyawoye explained that the workshop was organized to enlighten the University on how to put FUOYE on a global map.

    She said: “This work is to enhance productivity, quality service delivery in research, teaching and promoting the university.

    “I want you to engage with the key driving force that will build the name of Federal University Oye Ekiti.”

    Also, a guest speaker and lecturer at the Department of Communication Studies, Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti, presented a paper on Commitment to University Advancement.

    While Dr. Adebola Aderibigbe from the Department of Mass Communication, Federal University Oye-Ekiti spoke on Media as a veritable tool for the advancement of the University.

    Meanwhile, while speaking with FUOYE News, Prof. Oyawoye simply eulogized the VC who had provided the enabling environment for staff to thrive.

    She said: “We want to thank God Almighty and thank the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, who has asked us to organize this programme. We were five in the office, and today we have expanded to 100 in the vanguard of the Students arm, Academic arm, non-teaching arm, security, and so on.

    “Everyone wired up to start work.

    “What is next, they were going to show the light of advancement all over the world.

    “As you can see us on shirts and badges, people would begin to ask who are these people, if you sit down, you can not shine that’s why the scripture says Arise and shine even in Islam, stand up.

    “We will continue to talk to our students, we will get news, we will improve our portal, get data from men and women, and we will talk to people about FUOYE.

    “This is the opportunity to do endowment for the University which is the major one and all of us would be involved in the exercise. The Vice-Chancellor is ready to give us full support.

    “We are also bringing Alumni. Alumni building is at the completion stage and we are going to commission that soon. The Career Service Unit has joined us, we are going to advance the careers of our students, and we will organize workshops, retreats for academic staff, and scholarships for staff and students
