    FUOYE, UNICEF collaborate to enhance students’ entrepreneurial skills

    …as VC unveils plans for football field, lawn tennis courts

    The Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, and the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) have finalized plans to work together with a view to enhancing students’ entrepreneurial skills.

    Besides, FUOYE and UNICEF agreed on social policy partnership which aimed at creating a dynamic initiative to address urgent environmental challenges and provide sustainable job opportunities for the next generation of African entrepreneurs using students of the institution as a peg.

    However, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina and his top management team welcomed the team United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), led by a Programme Specialist, Bharat Kundra on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

    In his remarks, The Programme Specialist, Bharat Kundra appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, and his team for the warm reception accorded them.

    Bharat Kundra also appreciated the Advancement Centre team, being led by Professor Olubukola Oyawoye and the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Wasiu Ademola Oyedokun-Alli for their roles in ensuring students were well-informed about the career workshop for the students of the institution.

    He said: “We are here to organize a Double -U collaboration of Unilever, UNICEF, and FUOYE have brought something good that will help the students of the university.

    “The FUCAP Career Seminar is a comprehensive career and personal development programme designed to equip 700,000 Nigerian youths with future-ready work skills. The seminar will take place at the FUOYE Theater and Media Arts Auditorium on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

    “It started in 2018 and geared towards having programmes to promote the study of social policy, few universities were selected which FUOYE is among the 20 selected universities for the career talks.”

    Besides, Mr. Kundra added that UNICEF would continue to support the institution in actualizing its dream.

    According to Mr. Kundra, who won Mr. Indian 2007, the students would have the opportunity to intern with Unilever, a leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) company.

    However, the programme which included
    learning the basics of Business Model Canvas, participating in a CV Clinic Session, and preparing for a successful career path had exciting prizes available at the seminar.

    Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina welcomed Mr. Bharat Kundra and his team to the university.

    Professor Fasina said “When UNICEF was introduced to me, I quickly keyed into it because I have been a consultant to many organs of the United Nations.

    “When we came on board, the population of this university was less than 20,000. Today, we are about 53, 000 including Part-Time and top-up. This university was established in 2011. We had 11 faculties when we came on board, we now have 14 faculties.

    “I created a Part-Time programme when I became the Vice-Chancellor and this Institute is helping us to boost our Internally Generated revenue and create wealth in our dear state.

    “I have established the Freedom Park for the students to provide them with a space to relax and think outside the box. We have round-the-clock Internet facilities as part of our efforts to empower students for their future success.”

    Also, the Vice-Chancellor announced plans to create a football field and a lawn tennis court for both students and staff to display their talents to the world.

    He went on: “At night, the entire area is powered by solar energy, creating a serene environment that fosters innovative thinking.

    “We have initiated a programme named RISK, which stands for Resource, Innovative, Skills, and Knowledge to support the goals of the present administration.

    “We have the necessary resources, dedicated lecturers, and valuable knowledge. We are eager to collaborate with UNICEF as we believe they have a lot to offer our university.

    “We have also launched the Vice-Chancellor’s Innovation Challenge (VIC) programme, with a one million naira prize for the top 3 students in the competition.

    “Furthermore, I plan to organize a competition where the overall winner will serve as the One Day Vice-Chancellor and two others as Deputy Vice-Chancellors. They will participate in management meetings in my office.

    “We are keen on further collaboration with UNICEF, as we believe this partnership will greatly benefit our students by enhancing their entrepreneurial skills.

    “Walking the Talk magazine embodies many of our achievements in the last three years. We have produced five magazines since coming on board.”

    Meanwhile, highlights of the event were presentations of FUOYE Magazines complimentary copies to Bharat Kundra for his perusal

    At the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Academic), Professor Olubunmi Samuel Shittu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor ( Administration) Professor Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola, Registrar, Mr. Muftau Adesina Ibrahim, Bursar, Mrs. Adekemisola Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna, Director of Advancement Centre, Professor Olubukola Oyawoye, Dean of Students, Professor Wasiu Ademola Oyedokun-Alli, Dr. Adebimpe Omolola Esan among others.

    Also on the team of the Programme Specialist, Kundra was Albert Nzekwu (Programme Officer, NMEC), Ifeoluwa Ifedayo (Southwest Territory Officer, U-Report), and Ismaila Alugbere (NMEC).
