Amidst pomp and pageantry, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina was honoured with a fellow of the Horticultural Society of Nigeria award on Wednesday.
The Vice-Chancellor In an epoch-making event, themed “Application of Science, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence in Production and Practices of Horticulture” held at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, was honoured with the prestigious award during the Horticulture Society of Nigeria’s (HORTSON) 41st annual conference on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at the Great Hall of the ivory tower.
President, of the Horticultural Society of Nigeria, Professor Rotimi Ipinmoroti while decorating Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina as a fellow of the society, alongside Vice- Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof. Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu and UNIOSUN, Prof. Odunayo Adebooye congratulated him for the award, attributing the prestigious award to his performance and achievements.
He said: “This award, presented to Professor Fasina was in recognition
of his doggedness, unbeatable records, and commitment to the development and repositioning of the institution and also for his contribution to society.”
In his reactions, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Professor Sunday Abayomi Fasina commended HORTSON for the award, saying the award would spur him to do more.
Meanwhile, Horticultural Society of Nigeria (HORTSON) which was established in 1977 is a registered society in Nigeria as one of the most respected and influential professional societies for horticultural scientists.
At the event were dignitaries from all works of life.
They were the Ag. Head, Department of Crop Science and Horticulture (FUOYE), who doubles as President of the Society for Underutilized Legumes, Dr. Daniel Adewale.
Others from the Faculty of Agriculture, FUOYE were Dr. Opeyemi Osundare, Professor Ayodele Fajinmi, Bishop Kunle Oni, Dr. Bayeri Samuel, Odetoye Funke, Dr. Badmus Abimbola, Prof. Adeniji Olawale, Prof. Joseph Duro Olarewaju, Dr. Adekoya Modinat from Plant Science and Biotechnology.
Also were Professor Wasiu Ademola Oyedokun-Ali ( Dean, of Student Affairs), Dean of Pharmacy, Prof. Adedokun, Dr. Abiodun Lawal ( Psychology dept), Mrs. Blessing Eyiolorunpe ( Secretary, College of Medicine), Dr. Adedayo Sobowale (SSA to VC).
