The Federal University Oye-Ekiti celebrated its 9th convocation ceremony in grand style, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The event, held at the 1000 – Seater Auditorium, was graced by dignitaries, academicians, and prominent personalities from across the country.


The convocation lecture, delivered by the Executive Secretary of TETfund, Arc. Sonny Sylva Echono, set the tone for the ceremony. Echono emphasized the importance of innovation and quality education in driving national development, urging graduates to be catalysts for positive change in society. He also commended FUOYE for its remarkable growth, identifying it as one of the fastest-growing university in Nigeria. “FUOYE has shown unparalleled commitment to academic excellence and infrastructural development, setting a benchmark for other institutions in the country,” Echono stated.


A total of 8,444 students were awarded degrees across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Among them, 177 First-Class graduates were specially recognized for their outstanding academic performance. The university also honored four distinguished Nigerians with honorary degree awards for their contributions to national development. The awardees include Kanu Godwin Agabi and Bayo Ojo, both former Attorneys General and Ministers of Justice of the Federation; Mr. Segun Alebiosu, Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria; and Dr. Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace Airline.




The ceremony also featured the commissioning of several landmark projects aimed at enhancing the university’s infrastructure and academic offerings. These include a 1,000-seater auditorium, the Faculty of Law Complex, the Professorial Complex, and a state-of-the-art Innovation Hub. Other commissioned facilities include modern lecture halls, laboratories, Fasina Conference Centre, staff quarters and many more.


In addition to the academic honors, meritorious awards were presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to society. Among the awardees were Hon. Justice Alero Akeredolu, Rep. Akintunde Rotimi, Prof. Stephen Ocheni, Hon. David Idris Zacharias, Chief Segun Ajibulu, Engr. Oluremi Omowaye, Barr. Yemi Ayeni, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, Chief Oladele Owobusuyi, Otunba Shola Adewuyi, and High Chief Ogunleye Emmanuel.
The convocation ceremony also featured an edutainment segment, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria. Prominent personalities from the theatre and music industries, including Femi Adebayo, Saheed Osupa, Dele Odule, Peju Ogunmola, Peter Fatomilola, and Toyin Tomato, were not only honored with awards but also captivated the audience with their mesmerizing performances.



The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders for their support in making the event a success. He reiterated the university’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation, promising to continue providing world-class education and facilities for students and staff.
