…sets to open doors of great opportunities for younger Nigerian scholars in modeling and analytics

An Associate Professor of Modeling and Analytics with the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Dr. Emmanuel Afolabi Bakare has emerged an international board member of the Applied Malaria Modeling Network (AMMNET), Global, USA and the Regional Director of AMMNET, Nigeria.
Dr. Bakare brought the honour to the University and his country, Nigeria through cutting edge researches in his field which have made tremendous contribution towards the growth of the global research body in the USA and other western nations.
Dr. Bakare teaches at the department of mathematics, FUOYE and is also the Director of the University’s International Centre for Applied Mathematical Modeling and Data Analytics. His laudable achievement in becoming a global board member of AMMNET has been a reward of sound scholarship and excellent research efforts.
According to him, the position will open doors for research grants, fellowships and other academic successes/opportunities for upcoming young and vibrant scholars in modeling and analytics.
Speaking further to the University media team about his enviable journey as a scholar, he said:” My research interests lie primarily in the area of applied nonlinear dynamics and differential equations, stochastic processes, and stochastic differential equations with applications to epidemiology, ecology, and immunology. My research focuses basically on mathematical and statistical modelling/analysis and their applications in health (spread of diseases), environmental, economics, social, demography, etc. My topics of interest include deterministic and stochastic modelling of population dynamics of infectious diseases of humans, animals, and plants; statistical analysis of population-level infectious disease data; describing and modelling human behavioural decisions concerning infectious diseases; Data science and Epidemic models; Using a mathematical model to predict control and eradication strategies for endemic infections; prevention and response strategies for emerging and re-emerging infections; ecology; economics; environmental; social and policy implications. In recent years, I have been involved in country-specific modelling especially since the time I worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Associated Institute of the University of Basel, Switzerland . I have good relationship with the National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) in Nigeria and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Abuja, Nigeria.”
Dr. Bakare whose achievements have drawn accolades from the University community and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, also spoke about his journey in scholarship that earned him the current giant stride. His words: “The whole thing started during my Postdoc at SwissTPH as mentioned earlier, where I had met some world class malaria modelling scientist and I had presented my work. Some of them took note of my motivation and interest in modelling malaria specific to my country and it was from there we developed some collaborations and networks that grew up into been part of AMMnet today. One of the benefits that come with this position is in the trust to access more opportunities, grants and the likes to support young and vibrant upcoming modellers and analysts in-country.”
Greatly excited about Dr. Bakare’s giant strides as a scholar and researcher, the VC, Prof. Fasina described him as a pride to FUOYE, his family, the academia and to Nigeria at large. He wished him a great and fulfilling tenure as member, international board of AMMNET.
