…receives new Commissioner of Police, Ogundare

The Vice- Chancellor, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina has said the university under his leadership had employed knowledge-based economy to drive the state’s economy in the last two years of his administration.This, he said was possible following presence of FUOYE through its Part-Time Studies in almost all communities in Ekiti as commerce was in full gear in the communities.
Professor Fasina said: “As matter of fact, we are trying to use the knowledge of economics to drive the economy of Ekiti State. Virtually all towns in Ekiti want our presence in their towns. Why? Commerce. “We have brought development to these communities through commerce, opportunities, accommodation, transportation, trades, etc.
This is called Community Service.”The Vice-Chancellor said this while receiving the new Ekiti State Commissioner of Police in his office.He also seized the opportunity to eulogise the police for living up expectation especially in the areas of policing and curbing crimes.
VC said: “I am so impressed with the administration of police. The Command has changed, the orientation has changed. Police no longer condone nonsense and this has sent signals to a lot of people. For me, we are having a new Nigerian Police which I think Nigeria deserves and it is a big one. Police is a friend of everybody and I love the police.
“The police are doing wonderful job now and we will support you sir.”Responding, the new Commissioner, Ogundare told the Vice-Chancellor of his plans to partner the university with a view to curbing crimes especially kidnapping, saying his team was battle-ready to confront prevalence of crimes “in this axis.
The commissioner said: “Sir, I am happy to be here. And I am glad that you are equally an alumnus of the University of Ibadan. I graduated from the University of Ibadan where I studied Political Science. But eventually, we found ourselves in the Nigeria Police. We thank God for everything Sir.“Now that I am here, I am happy that the school is in session unlike in some other places where the Universities are shut and I thank God, you said that we should come and introduce ourselves to you and let us see the areas we can work together.
“I am aware that in this axis like this, there used to be issues of cultism. But now a days, I discovered that cultism among students have reduced. Now it is being done by bricklayers and other artisans. I
i am equally aware that in this axis, the issue of kidnapping is becoming high too. But we are here to confront these challenges and we need information, we need cooperation, collaboration, especially among the students so that at least, if there is anything that is happening in their area we can be able to tackle such challenges. That is the primary reason for coming.”
