The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has formally inaugurated the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE).
The event being second in its series, took place on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Hall on the university’s main campus in Oye-Ekiti.
Speaking at the ceremony, the ICPC Chairman, Mr. Musa Adamu, represented by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC), Mr. Tiku Andrew Menge lauded the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina on what he described as his outstanding achievements since assuming office as the institution’s fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor.
Also, in his goodwill message, Mr. Adamu expressed appreciation to the university management and staff for organizing the inauguration, saying that the event had underscored FUOYE’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability.
He said: “Today’s event affirms the outright commitment of this institution in domesticating the anti-corruption crusade and further confirms government support for ACTU as a veritable instrument in fighting corruption in the public service.”
The ICPC boss explained that ACTU, established in 2001 in collaboration with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), served as an internal mechanism to prevent and combat corruption within public institutions.
Its responsibilities included staff sensitization against corrupt practices, examination of systems and procedures prone to abuse, development and enforcement of codes of ethics, monitoring of budget implementation, and preliminary investigation of complaints.
He, however, emphasized that the initiative was not designed to undermine university management but rather to complement it.
“The ACTU initiative is not intended to undermine the authority of management but rather to complement it, especially in bringing about a positive anti-corruption culture in the MDAs,” he said.
He further called on the university management to provide full support to the Unit, including adequate funding and inclusion of ACTU members in relevant standing committees in line with government directives.
Congratulating the newly inaugurated members, Mr. Adamu urged them to uphold high ethical standards with exemplary models.
He added that the ICPC looked forward to a stronger partnership with FUOYE in advancing national development.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fasina, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola, commended the ICPC for establishing ACTU in FUOYE.
He pledged the university management’s full cooperation and support for the Unit’s activities.
In his acceptance speech as ACTU Chairman, Professor Opoola expressed gratitude to the ICPC leadership for the confidence reposed in the newly inaugurated members.
“With a humble heart, my team and I accept the responsibility given to us as members of this noble body, ACTU FUOYE,” he said, assuring that the Unit would operate strictly in line with established guidelines.
Acknowledging the prevalence of corruption challenges in society, Professor Opoola stated, “With the help of God on our side, we are going to follow the standing order, and we will do our possible best not to fail ourselves, the University, and this noble body.” He further assured the ICPC that the Vice-Chancellor would provide an enabling environment for ACTU to function effectively, noting that Professor Fasina has “zero tolerance for corruption.”
He concluded by reaffirming the Unit’s commitment to working diligently to fulfill ACTU’s mandate for the benefit of the university and the wider society.
Members of the newly inaugurated FUOYE ACTU include Professor Tajudeen Opoola (Chairman), Mr. Olumuyiwa Ajayi (Secretary), Mr. Olubo Muyiwa Victor, Builder Olaiya Bridget, and Mr. Ogunje Temitope Ebenezer.
The event was attended by other principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (SPRIL), Professor Joshua Ogunwole; the Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim; the Bursar, Dr. (Mrs.) Debo-Ajaguna; and the University Librarian, Dr. Olabode Olajide.
