    Key appointments: FUOYE Senate elects representatives into Search, Selection Committees

    The Senate of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria, has elected representatives into various Search and Selection Committees responsible for appointment of key university officers, including the Vice – Chancellor, University Librarian, and Directors of Works and Services, Physical Planning and Medical Services.

    The election, which took place during an emergency meeting of the Senate held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Faculty of Arts Lecture Hall, was conducted under the supervision of the Academic Affairs Division.

    The process was described as fair, transparent, and reflective of the Senate’s commitment to credible leadership.

    A total of 106 Senate members were accredited to participate in the exercise following directives from the University Council that the Senate should elect its representatives into the committees with a view to facilitating the appointment of the aforementioned positions.

    In the election for the Senate Search Committee for the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adeniji Bolaji and Professor Abolarin E.O. emerged as winners, each polling 29 votes in a tie that reflected their strong support base among colleagues.

    Also, Professor Bashiru Ajiboye, who garnered 35 votes, and Professor Tolulope Ariyomo, who secured 20 votes, were elected as members of the Senate Selection Committee for the appointment of the Vice- Chancellor.

    Both are expected to contribute their experience and integrity to the process of identifying capable leadership for the university.

    For the appointment of other principal officers, including the University Librarian, Director of Works and Services, Director of Physical Planning, and the Director of Medical Services, two distinguished scholars, Professor Okoror Lawrence with 24 votes and Professor Adeyefa E.O. with 23 votes were elected as Senate representatives in the Search Committee.

    Earlier, the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, addressed the Senate, urging members to uphold unity, peace, and excellence in the discharge of their duties.

    However, he reminded members that their actions and decisions should align with the collective goal of building a stronger and more globally competitive FUOYE.

    Professor Fasina also disclosed that the meeting considered other key items, including the forthcoming National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercise for the Faculty of Law, Nursing, and 11 other academic programmes, saying that preparations were in top gear despite previous disruptions caused by the ASUU strike.

    He reaffirmed his administration’s focus on consolidating FUOYE’s achievements as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing universities, now boasting of 18 faculties and a student population exceeding 59,000.

    Professor Fasina said: “My coming back is to focus on works to be done and have no time for grudges.”
