The leadership of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Ekiti State Campus Monitoring Committee (CMC), on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 , welcomed the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, back from his six-month research leave, presenting him with a meritorious award in recognition of his exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to student development.

Led by Comrade Ologe John Tobiloba, the National Director of Campus Interventions, NAUS Ekiti CMC, the delegation described the visit as both a homecoming welcome and an avenue to appreciate the Vice Chancellor’s unwavering support for student leadership and welfare.

Speaking during the visit, Comrade Ologe praised Professor Fasina for being a visionary administrator and one of the most student-friendly Vice Chancellors in Nigeria. He noted that the VC’s leadership style has not only enhanced academic excellence but has also promoted inclusive governance between the university management and the student body.

According to him, Professor Fasina has distinguished himself as a true mentor and father figure who pays attention to both academic and leadership development of students. “He is the kind of leader who believes in building capacity. The VC organizes leadership retreats and practical training sessions for student leaders to prepare them for future responsibilities,” Ologe said.

Comrade Ologe further highlighted that FUOYE currently has seven out of the thirteen executives of NAUS Ekiti State, a feat he attributed to the Vice Chancellor’s consistent encouragement and enabling environment for student engagement and participation in leadership.

In recognition of his numerous contributions to student welfare and his relentless efforts in building a harmonious relationship between management and students, the association presented a Meritorious Leadership Award to Professor Fasina. The award, according to the group, symbolizes the appreciation of Nigerian students for his humility, accessibility, and visionary leadership.

The delegation also officially invited the Vice Chancellor to serve as the Special Guest of Honour and Chief Host at the forthcoming inauguration ceremony of the newly elected executives of NAUS Ekiti State CMC, scheduled to hold on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti campus.

Comrade Ologe Oluwatobiloba, while presenting the formal invitation letter, stated that Professor Fasina’s presence at the inauguration would add immense value and prestige to the event, which will be attended by all national executives of NAUS from across the country.

Responding, Professor Fashina expressed appreciation for the thoughtful visit and the recognition bestowed on him. He commended the association for its commitment to responsible student leadership and assured them of the university’s continuous support for programmes that promote student growth, academic excellence, and leadership capacity.

The visit ended on a warm note, with the student leaders expressing renewed solidarity and respect for the Vice Chancellor, whom they described in a chanting song as a shining and true leader example of a transformative leader in Nigeria’s higher institution system.
