Press Release
The attention of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has been drawn to reports going viral on the media that the management has warned her female staff and students to stay indoors during the Oro festival in Ikole-Ekiti community which has been scheduled to hold from August 7 to 9 ,2004 . We wish to state categorically that this development is a proactive step to secure the lives of our female staff and students and prevent earlier ugly incident when a student was physically assaulted by overzealous traditionalists during such traditional festivals in the community .
There is therefore no bad intention in releasing the memo for both female staff and students . We equally understand that every citizen have inalienable right of movement anytime but there are exceptions occasionally especially when the life of citizens may be at risk. We therefore, reiterate the management’s directive that both female students and staff of FUOYE should remain indoors during the hours the Oro festival is holding from August 7-9 2024 in the said community, Ikole-Ekiti in Ikole local government area of the Ekiti State.
Thank you
Signed
