The newly appointed Chief Security Officer of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Capt. Raymond Bitanis (Rtd) said he had all it would take to secure the institution from intruders and other unwanted persons.

According to him, experiences he had gathered over the years would no doubt help him to further step-up security architecture of the Nigeria’s fastest-growing university.

Specifically, Capt. Bitanis said he would bring to bear his over 25 years of experience both in the military and other universities he had held sway to secure the university against any threat to Campus’ security with a view to achieving set goals of maximum security for Federal University Oye-Ekiti.

The CSO said although FUOYE was not his first tertiary institution of operation as a Chief Security Officer, he revealed that he had served in the same capacity at Federal University Dutsen-ma (2013-2016) and Bowen University Osun respectively.

This, he said would spur him to attain optimal results that would maintain the existing peace on campus.

While dwelling on his past exploits as CSO, Capt. Bitanis said his role as a member of Federal Government team on amnesty, counter-terrorism within the country and Israel were more than enough to equip him for the job.

Rtd Captain Bitanis, who in a chat with the FUOYE’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede said he had a robust career of over 25 years after which he put in a voluntary retirement, insisted that he would bring his experience in full gear to bear on campus and its surroundings by also collaborating with some security agencies.

On what he was bringing to FUOYE, he said, although there were universal issues across Nigerian University Campuses, FUOYE would rank best with available resources in the kitty to work with.

For instance, the new CSO said compared to other universities he had worked in terms of security logistics, none could be compared to FUOYE.

CSO said: “The challenges are the same. For example, the issue of logistics, there is no way logistics will be enough in any organization especially security; and that is why there is no country that you will go that you will be told that resources for security are enough. But I want to say that the logistics in this place (FUOYE) compared with what I experienced in other places, this University is above average.

“The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina has provided up to five Hilux Vans for the security unit as against two that we had in my last place of work.”

He, however, assured the university that his unit would exhaust all necessary avenue before engaging security agencies especially when security issues arise on campus with students.

The CSO said: “We must discourage arms on campus because if anything happens and a student is shot, the university will not like it, so we will try our best even if the matter is a criminal case, we should be the one to take the student to the necessary agencies except if the student proves stubborn.”

On the strength of Officers on campus, Capt. Bastini applauded quality of manpower he met on ground saying that “although not sufficient, more will still be added as time goes on and with availability of funds as training and retraining of staff remained the hallmark for maximum service delivery.
