As the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) prepares for the commencement of the 2025/2026 Second Semester Undergraduate Examinations on June 22, 2026, the Faculty of Social Sciences has intensified efforts to ensure a credible, transparent and malpractice-free examination process through a series of sensitisation programmes for both academic staff and students.
Speaking during separate training and orientation sessions held ahead of the examinations, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Sunday Adedini, emphasised that the integrity of examinations remains fundamental to preserving the value and reputation of FUOYE certificates.
According to the Dean, examination integrity is a collective responsibility that requires strict adherence to established regulations, professionalism and ethical conduct by all stakeholders.
“Integrity is the foundation of examination conduct. Every member of staff and every student has a responsibility to protect the credibility of our assessment process and the image of the University,” Prof. Adedini stated.
During a training programme on Professional and Ethical Conduct of Examination for academic staff, the Dean highlighted key responsibilities expected of lecturers and invigilators before, during and after examinations. He stressed the need for confidentiality in handling examination materials, active supervision of candidates, proper documentation of incidents and strict compliance with university regulations.
Prof. Adedini further warned against any form of examination misconduct, including question paper leakage, script tampering, aiding malpractice and compromise of examination procedures, noting that such actions attract disciplinary sanctions.
The Deputy Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Michael B. Aleyomi, also delivered a presentation on “Ensuring Integrity and Accountability in Exam Invigilation,” where he emphasized the importance of vigilance, impartiality, accountability and professionalism in examination administration.
Dr. Aleyomi noted that the credibility of academic certificates depends largely on the integrity of assessment processes, adding that effective invigilation remains one of the strongest safeguards against academic dishonesty.
He encouraged invigilators to maintain active supervision throughout examinations, properly document irregularities and adhere strictly to established procedures in handling malpractice cases.
According to him, examination integrity protects not only the institution but also honest students whose academic achievements deserve recognition based solely on merit.
In a related development, Prof. Adedini issued a directive to all students of the Faculty of Social Sciences ahead of the forthcoming examinations, urging them to shun every form of examination malpractice and conduct themselves responsibly throughout the examination period.
The directive advised students to verify their examination timetables and venues ahead of time, arrive at examination halls at least 30 minutes before commencement, sign attendance registers promptly and comply fully with instructions from invigilators.
Students were also warned against bringing unauthorised materials such as mobile phones, smart watches, programmable calculators and other prohibited devices into examination venues.
The Dean reminded students that only candidates assigned to designated examination venues would be admitted and encouraged them to uphold the values of honesty, discipline and academic excellence.
“The success of this examination is a collective responsibility. As students, you deserve a system that rewards hard work and protects merit. You must cooperate with the Faculty to uphold the academic standards of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the University at large,” he said.
The Faculty reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of examination ethics and professionalism, while calling on both staff and students to work together in ensuring a smooth, fair and successful examination exercise.
