Amidst sobs by family members and associates, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina in a commendation service, bid a farewell to one of its own, an erudite scholar, neighbour and dependable comrade,
Professor (Mrs.) Modupe Orunmuyi.
Professor Orunmuyi died on July 24, 2023, following a brief illness.

Until her death, Professor Orunmuyi was the Head of Department of Animal Production and Health, Faculty of Agriculture, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.
In a statement announcing her passage, signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Adesina Ibrahim, described the late Professor Orunmuyi as a dependable, hardworking and erudite scholar, who would not quit her job until she was satisfied.
Ibrahim said: “The University received with great shock and heavy heart, the sad news of our erudite scholar, Professor (Mrs.) Modupe Orunmuyi, the Head of Department of Animal Production and Health, Faculty of Agriculture, who passed away in the early hours of Monday 24th July, 2023 after a brief illness.

“It is therefore with great
pain and sense of loss that I announce on behalf of the University management to the university community the death of Professor Orunmuyi.
“We pray that the LORD will minister words of comfort to the entire family of our dear Professor Modupe Orunmuyi at this time of mourning and also grant the family and the entire university community the courage to bear the loss.
“It is our prayer that her soul should rest in peace.”
However, in his tribute amidst tears, the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina described her death as a personal loss.

The Vice-Chancellor in an emotion-laden voice paid glowing tribute to the late Professor Orunmuyi, described her as an example of a virtuous woman, who served humanity with all her heart.
He said: “We worked closely together. We put together and got two accreditations when I was on sabbatical before I became the university Vice-Chancellor.
“This was made possible because the woman took her assignment very serious.
“She was always smiling even when the assignment was tough. She was indeed a virtuous woman as everything she did was with passion.
“She impacted my life, I learnt so much from her and she served humanity with all heart.
“We should try as much as possible to live a good life. We brought nothing to this world and we would leave with nothing.”
While quoting copiously from the book of Eccl 12: 13-14, Prof. Fasina admonished us to be good to one another in the journey of life as no one knew when his or her time would come, saying “the day of the LORD is near.”
Also in his tribute, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, simply said “we have lost a rare gem.”
“So humble to a fault; I know she has gone to rest with her Maker,” he added.
Apparently
wearing mournful and glooming faces, a torrent of tributes began to pour in front her colleagues and associates.
All described her as a wonderful Professor and woman, who would never hurt a fly.
Specifically, all described her as a mother with a heart of gold, soul of an angel, diligent, who never got tired of mentoring every one that came her way.
To FUOYE ASUU Chairman, Dr. Akinyemi Gabriel Omonijo, Professor Orunmuyi was “an unsung hero, who never sought fame, fortune or praise but worked tirelessly in pursuit of delivering the best to all those around her.”
He went on: “If there was one thing Professor Orunmuyi taught us, it’s living a honourable life in service of others.”
Earlier, in a short exhortation, Professor O.Amu encouraged the university community to remain steadfast and ask God for help and understanding to choose wisely between heaven and hell as everyone would give account of their stewardship here on earth to GOD after death.
According to him, the commendation service for the late Professor Orunmuyi was another opportunity to re-examine one’s self in the journey of life.
Quiting from Psalms 90 and Revelation 21, Professor Amu said the diverse distress in the world today was a testimony that the end was near.
However, Professor Amu urged the members of the university community to accept JESUS as their LORD and Saviour before it was late.
He said: “This service is another opportunity to re-examine ourselves especially when we’re still flourishing on this side now. May GOD help our understanding; teach us to number our days and apply our hearts to wisdom particularly as there is going to be a new Heaven and a new Earth.
“Whether we like it or not we would have a new Heaven where GOD will wipe away our tears; where HE will not allow pains and sorrow.
“It’s your decision to determine where you will spend eternity. Decide today as tomorrow may be late. JESUS loves you.”
