The Vice-Chancellor Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina has charged students of the Institute of Part-Time Studies (IPTS), to avoid acts capable of truncating their studies as the university would not tolerate any act of misconduct.

He specifically asked them to dedicate themselves to their studies rather than embracing any act of anti-social vices.

Professor Fasina said this at the 6th matriculation ceremony of the Institute held on IPTS’ premises, Aiyegbaju Ekiti, Ekiti State.

While delivering his address, Professor Fasina said although the matriculation would be his last ceremony as the university Vice-Chancellor, he showered encomiums on the pioneer Director, Associate Professor Adeleke Omolade, describing him as architect of the Institute which population had risen to 9, 000 students within a space of six years.

He said Omolade laboured for the IPTS, which earned the university an increase in internally generated revenue (IGR), saying the pioneer Director deserved an applause.

Professor Fasina, however, encouraged the students to prioritise their studies far above any extra-curricular activities as “your success will be determined by your level of seriousness.”

He went on:” Attend your lectures regularly as any act of misconduct will be treated in accordance with the university’s extant laws.

“I congratulate you. This is going to be my last matriculation especially as I have done that for six consecutive times.
The institute began during my administration and I have no doubt contributed immensely to the development of the Institute.”

The IPTS which began in 2021 had grown from less than 1000 students to over 9,000 with 25 National University Commission’s (NUC) approved and accredited programmes.

At the matriculation ceremony were the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, Deputy Vice-Chancellor administration, Prof. Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Strategic Partnership Research, Innovation and Linkages and Vice-Chancellor Designate, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, the university Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim, Bursar, Dr. Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna, librarian, Dr. Olabode Olajide, Director IPTS, Prof. Adelani Tijani among many officials of the university.
