Vice-Chancellor Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, Nigeria, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina has expressed satisfaction over this year’s conduct of students’ election into the Students’ Union Government (SUG) and the professionalism displayed during the elections, describing it as excellent.
The Vice-Chancellor, who spoke through the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tajudeen Opoola also expressed satisfaction with the role played by the immediate past-head of the security unit, Mr. Paul Ogidi in handling students’ matters while holding sway as the Chief Security Officer of the university.
He, however, said that a replacement in Rtd Capt. Raymond Batinis was apt considering his wealth of experience in campus security administration, saying his administration had placed students’ welfare at the front burner, promising to keep doing so within the available resources.
Besides, he said needed logistics of the Security Unit would henceforth be placed on desired attention amidst competing demands from various compartments of the institution competing for attention.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, assured the university community of adequate and regular training and retraining of the security personnel with a view to sustaining students-friendly administration.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor had asked the newly students’ executives not to take laws into their hands especially on security issues, urging them to always report security issues to appropriate quarters.
While saying that the peaceful conduct of students’ election was an evidence of non-interference of the university management in unions’ elections, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated his administration’s commitment to keep working round the clock so as to improve on the relative peace and security across the University campuses.
