The Vice-Chancellor, of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina has reiterated his commitment to take FUOYE to greater heights with a view to advancing the community of learning by engaging in scientific research, humanistic scholarship, multi-disciplinary research, entrepreneurship and technological integration.

Accordingly, Prof. Fasina maintained that the growth and development of the university remained uppermost in his heart as he would not leave any stone unturned until the university became first destination for admission seekers in the country.

He said: “All hands must be on deck to propel the university to greater heights.

“I want to task all university-based unions to respect the constituted authority and be ready to work harmoniously with the university.”

The Vice-Chancellor said this during presentation of 36 Fridges to the University by the Alumni Association of the institution on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Theatre Art Department Hall.

Professor Abayomi Fasina whilst receiving the items, commended the alumni association for the donation of the 36 fridges to the university.

This, according to him was a target donation to support the university towards the ongoing accreditation of some academic programmes.

He, however, poured encomiums on the newly appointed Director of Advancement Center, Professor (Mrs) M.O. Oyawoye for the great feat in a short period.

While recalling with nostalgia his numerous achievements during his tenure of office as the Director of the Advancement Center of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, lauded Prof. Oyawoye’s driving speed as director of the center, saying the donation of the fridges had no doubt lifted a huge burden off the university, particularly concerning the ongoing accreditation of about 36 programs where the university had purchased about 15 fridges before this donation.

Citing impact of alumni on any university as great, Prof. Fasina said world-class Universities like Harvard, Yale, Oxford, and the Universities of Ibadan, Lagos, etc were leading beneficiaries of huge support from their alumni associations.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of the Advancement Center, Professor (Mrs) M.O. Oyawoye lauded the VC for his giant stride and vision towards the development of the university.

She, however, said that alumni support for the university would target the needs of the university and its peculiarities.

Professor Oyawoye, a former Acting Vice-Chancellor, of Adeleke University, Ede, and erstwhile Commissioner for the Environment, Osun State, stated clearly that the alumni association had come to play its big role in the development of the university.

Also, she highlighted other areas of planned intervention of the alumni association such as the ongoing construction of the Alumni Center (which is near completion), provision of the bus for the Association activities, office materials, donation to the Examination and Records unit to ease the discharge of their duties, maintenance, and sustenance of peace between Students Union Government (SUG) and university management, etc.

Meanwhile, The National President of the FUOYE Alumni Association, Mr Temitope Arogundade, also commended the VC, Professor Abayomi Fasina for providing a conducive environment for the association to thrive.

While appreciating members of the executive of the Association for their cooperation and wonderful support, he shared the vision of the alumni association to include propagation of the image of the university in positive ways, always.

The alumni association, according to the National President has continued to be the moderating influence between the university management and many of the alumni (both in diaspora and within Nigeria) whilst in the same vein, acting as a guide for the Students Union Government (SUG) in their official dealings with the university management.

However, Mr Arogundade promised that the Association still had a lot in the offing for the benefit of the university staff and students.

At the event were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academics, Professor Olubunmi Shittu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Administration, Professor Tajudeen Opoola, University Registrar, Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim among others.
