We are excited to announce that the Department of Chemistry, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has officially joined the Green Chemistry Commitment (GCC) as of March 17th, 2025.

GCC is a global movement led by Beyond Benign to transform chemical education for a more sustainable future.

Our department has been actively practising and promoting green chemistry principles for years through our research and teaching activities. From designing safer chemical processes to encouraging environmentally responsible laboratory practices, green chemistry has been an integral part of our identity. Joining the GCC will now provide a recognised and enabling platform to amplify further these efforts to deepen our commitment and broaden our impact.
By signing the GCC, we have pledged to integrate the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry into our core curriculum and this commitment signifies more than a curriculum shift—it is our official declaration to champion innovation that aligns with global sustainability goals, including pollution prevention, renewable resource use, and hazard reduction in chemical practice.
This strategic step reflects our deepening commitment to sustainability, academic excellence, and global collaboration. Our students, researchers, and partners will benefit greatly from the knowledge, networks, and resources available through the GCC network.
We are fully in motion: curriculum reviews, faculty training and student engagement are underway. Together, we are building a generation of chemists who will lead with conscience, competence, and creativity.
Special appreciation to our HOD, Dr. Lekan Faboya, for his visionary leadership in making it possible to join the GCC movement.
Many thanks to our faculty, students, and the university management for their vision and support.
Our department is now part of over 100 global institutions committed to the GCC movement. See our “Who’s Committed” profile here: https://www.beyondbenign.org/school_profiles/federal-university-oye-ekiti/
The journey toward a greener and more equitable future in chemistry continues, with greater resolve and shared purpose.
