The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has been inducted as a distinguished member of the International Society of Diplomats (ISD). The prestigious induction took place during the society’s inaugural assembly in Nigeria on Tuesday, 17th December 2024, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

The event was chaired by His Excellency, Dr. Isa Yuguda, former Governor of Bauchi State and ex-Minister of Aviation. It also attracted a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, including Vice Admiral E.I. Ogalla, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS); the representative of the Chief of Defence Staff; the representative of the Chief of Army Staff; and Mr. Usani Uguru Usani, the 4th Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, reflecting the importance of the occasion.

Dr. Faranpojo A. Omoleye, Chairman of the National Planning Committee (ISD), presenting the induction materials for Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina to Professor Adebola A. Aderibigbe.

The International Society of Diplomats, a professional wing of the College of Diplomatic Studies and International Relations, was founded by a coalition of career and non-career diplomats from various nations. Its core mission is to create a sustainable platform for diplomats worldwide to discuss and address key issues impacting their profession and welfare.

Professor Fasina’s induction is particularly significant as he is one of only two inductees from the academic sector. This recognition underscores his outstanding contributions in fostering diplomatic relationships at local and institutional levels. His visionary leadership and commitment to excellence have positioned him as a crucial figure in bridging the gap between academic community and the larger community, enhancing the global stature of FUOYE.

Represented by Prof. Adebola A. Aderibigbe, of FUOYE’s Department of Mass Communication, Professor Fasina’s induction is bound to impact the university positively. The recognition is expected to strengthen FUOYE’s ties with the diplomatic community, offering access to influential networks and advancing its strategic impact both within and outside Nigeria.

In a statement, the Nigeria Country Director/Head of Mission, Professor Edet B. Ekpenyong, praised Professor Fasina’s leadership, describing him as a transformative agent of change in every leadership capacity he has occupied, further solidifying his reputation as a trailblazer in the academic and diplomatic realms.
