The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has received international commendation as the Morehead-Cain Global Scholar Programme, in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, moves to deepen academic collaboration with the institution.

The Programme Manager of the Morehead-Cain Global Scholar Programme, Ezekiel Adebayo, praised FUOYE’s leadership for consistently producing outstanding graduates who continue to distinguish themselves globally through academic excellence and leadership achievements.
Adebayo made the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room Senate Building, on Friday 17th, April, 2026.

He noted that FUOYE students have demonstrated remarkable academic and leadership excellence, citing the recent success of a 400-level Law student, Miss Favour Temidara Awolana, who secured the prestigious $100,000 Morehead-Cain Global Fellowship. She is among only 12 recipients globally for the 2026 cohort and will participate in a one-year programme at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, involving research, internships, and mentorship.

According to him, the achievement reflects the institution’s strong academic culture, mentorship structure, and commitment to student development.
Adebayo further disclosed that the organisation is working on broader initiatives aimed at expanding access to global scholarship opportunities. The initiatives are designed to strengthen leadership development and provide academic support for high-performing students across different countries.

He added that formal proposals would soon be submitted to the University, with the aim of establishing a strategic collaboration and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance institutional partnership.
Speaking on the development, the Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Dr. Sunday Saanu, said the Vice-Chancellor had approved the production of a large billboard featuring the Vice-Chancellor and Miss Awolana at strategic locations within the university to inspire students toward academic excellence.

Responding on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Tajudeen Bolanle Opoola, described the visiting delegation as “destiny helpers,” noting that their engagement would open new opportunities for FUOYE students.
He expressed appreciation for the recognition accorded to the university and reaffirmed FUOYE’s readiness to collaborate in ways that will expand international exposure, enhance student opportunities, and further strengthen its global academic reputation.
