The last day of Innovation and Entrepreneurship week 2025 which held on 22nd May, 2025 marked another significant milestone in the history of Federal University Oye-Ekiti as the Directorate of Educational Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship ( DETIE) in partnership with the Nigerian Innovative Engineers, Science and Applied Technology (NIESAT) organized a technical skill acquisition workshop for the students.
The workshop which held at the Faculty of Engineering Lecture Theater, Ikole campus was a resounding success. The event featured esteemed guest speakers who shared their expertise on various topics crucial for personal and professional development.
The workshop commenced with a warm welcome address by the Dean, Faculty of Engineering Prof Olaitan Akinsanmi who set the tone for the day’s proceedings.
Speaking at the event, the Ag. Director of Entrepreneurship, Dr Adebimpe Esan, extended a warm greeting to all participants and emphasized the importance of technical skill acquisition in today’s fast-paced and competitive world.
The Director of Strategic Partnership and Innovation, Prof Sunday Adedini who represented the DVC SPRIL, Prof Joshua Ogunwole at the event, charged the students to further commit to learning, improving and transforming their future through acquistion of technical skills.
The President of NIESAT Mr Gospel Chukwuka Onu stated that the training was aimed at enhancing students’ employability and entrepreneurial aspirations.
A thought-provoking presentation was given by Prince Olaoluwa Adebiyi on self and mindset mastery. He emphasized the significance of having a growth mindset in overcoming obstacles and achieving success. He also stressed the importance of self-awareness in identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
The Director of Career Services, Prof Adebola Aderibigbe also shared valuable insights on leadership and communication. He emphasized the importance of effective communication in leadership, emphasizing the need for clarity, empathy, and active listening.
The Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment in Ekiti State Otunba Kayode Fasae who was also in attendance shed light on the Ministry’s initiatives to tackle unemployment among youths. He stated that his ministry will continue to deepen engagenents with the Federal University Oye-Ekiti in proferring appropriate solutions to creating wealth and employment for her graduates.
The program also featured breakout sessions where students were divided into various groups and given hands-on training on: Robotics, Embeded systems design, solar and inverter installation, Web3, Computer Aided Design, Web Development and PCB design.
The workshop also featured award of cash prizes to the First and Second Runner-Up of One-Day VC. Jesubanke Ojomo the second runner-up was awarded a cash prize of #100,000 by Prince David Olaoluwa the CEO of King David Leadership Academy while Adebimpe Hamdala the first runner-up was awarded #150,000 by Otunba Kayode Fasae the honorable commissioner for wealth creation and employment in Ekiti State.
Award of recognition was also given to members of NIESAT who facilitated the hands-on training.
In her vote of thanks, the Ag. Director of Entrepreneurship Dr Adebimpe Esan assured the participants that the directorate under her leadership will continue to collaborate with various organizations to instil an entrepreneurial mindset in both staff and students of FUOYE in order to make them job creators and employers of labour.
The program was a valuable experience for all participants.
