The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina has unveiled plans to create new faculty in Ikole campus of the university.
The new faculty– Computing and Informatics, according to the Vice-Chancellor would be sited on Ikole campus of the university.
This, he told an excited ikole community, which showered encomiums on the Vice-Chancellor, describing him as the best Vice-Chancellor with the ikole’s interest at heart.
Professor Fasina, however, who assured residents of Ikole Community during a free Medical outreach to the indigents in the community on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the Elekole Palace, Ikole Ekiti, Ekiti State, said many good things were underway for the benefit of the community.
Besides, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, said his administration would continue to build on rapid development solely predicated on community services with a view to giving back to host communities.
He said: “As part of my agenda to change the edifice of this community, another faculty will be coming to Ikole campus to be added to the existing ones.
“I remember the last time I came here, one of my agenda was agric business which is now in action. There is an agriculture green revolution in Ikole Ekiti, my administration has been able to establish a green revolution, and our farm-produce is being sold in Ikole community and its environs.
“This will not only fast-track development to Ikole which played host to the university but ensure peaceful co-existence between the university and the community at large.
“Our motive behind this gesture is to give back to our community that’s why we are here to give free health care services to our people in Ikole Ekiti. So, whatever we are doing today is about community service and we want to give back to the community.
“This is just the health sector, we are also going into agriculture as we have introduced a green revolution where our farm products are already being sold to the people of Ikole and its environs.
“Our mandate is to revolutionize the entire host communities through agriculture when we will produce what people will buy in large quantities. We are producing palm oil, cassava flour, and so on.
“The reason for this medical outreach is that we want to compensate your community for the good gesture accorded us. Ikole purchased a generator for the campus in 2013 and the generator is still in use till today. And I promise you that we shall continue to do it every year free of charge.”
The Vice-Chancellor said this while declaring open a medical outreach in Ikole as part of the FUOYE’S 8th convocation ceremonies which kicked off on February 5.
However, no fewer than 200 indigents benefited from the the medical outreach being led by the university Chief Medical Director, Dr. Musibau Olawale.
Earlier, HRM Oba Adewumi Ajibade Fasiku Elekole of Ikole and Paramount Ruler of Egbeoba Kingdom who was represented by High Chief M. Okunola, thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina and his team for extending the free medical outreach to the community.
The traditional ruler said that Professor Fasina had done great things within the short time he assumed office for Ikole Ekiti, urging him to do more.
He said: “We are asking for more faculties in Ikole Ekiti, appealing to the VC to immortalise one of their industrious sons, Mr. Kolawole Barnabas, who lost his life recently.
Oba Fasiku also advised the ikole community to practice good personal hygiene which is the key to good health and wellness
Meanwhile, the Medical Director of FUOYE’s Health Centre, Dr. Musibau Olanrewaju Olawale, who led other medical experts from the University, lauded the community for their large turn-out. He encouraged them to be more concerned about their health, saying that they would be examined on urine, fasting blood sugar, and hypertension.
Also, drugs would be provided free of charge for all participants in regardless of their health status, pledging to refer any critical case to a specialist hospital for proper treatment.
